Because there are players with billions of gil out there. The cap is 1 billion on your character and retainers. The amount of gil in the game that's stored away is simply staggering. For someone who has 9+ billion, 750m is pocket change. But enough mounts with that price point will drain that away and bring more players back to the MB, which is good for everyone.

I think you largely overestimate the amount of players at 1 billion gil.

to make the have nots more jealous of the haves? I will never see 750m gil in my lifetime... mainly because I dont play the MB as my endgame and find gil hoarding to be boring. the only ones it hurts is the people who are new and the people who dont find playing monopoly in XIV to be fun. in the end one such mount is just rewarding people who price gouge on the MB and encourage more of it.

Things being expensive on the MB isn't that big of an issue though. Like what do we need from the MB that is so expensive that it's hurting players? Gear? Unless you're going for world first stuff you don't need it, and what else? Glamour? I think they're at reasonable prices tbh.

I'd really rather not have to think about needing to raise a few hundred mil for mounts, minions and glamour.

I like putting my gil towards the occasional big treat for myself off the market board, or a gift for a friend.

I'll spend 7mil on an orchestrion roll for a friends xmas gift.

But 200mil for some glamour stuff? I'll take the "inflated" items on the MB at 20mil over 200mil anyday.

I don't know. Sure, you might have some people give up their masses of gil. But they'll probably get it back fairly quickly.

I also think this would encourage gil buying because people want their bling.

If you really want a gold sink, you need to have something that works more than a one-time thing. Buy a mount, and you're done. Being able to *craft* a mount and sell it to others, but have one item needed to make it be a bit more expensive and only from an NPC, that's a better sink than the one you propose because can be a constant source of gil draining.

I don't think you quite got my message...but oh well. (New Gold Sinks hurt new players because they aren't well off to start off with)

The gold sink items would be non-essentials. New players aren't well off. They can't compete against someone with half a billion gil. Sellers will drive others off. This is the monopolies/ near monopolies I'm talking about. Someone with a million can't compete with someone who has 500m. The person with more will drive their prices down to push people out. They do this all time. I've been at the receiving end of this personally a number of times. This makes it incredibly hard for new players to break into the market.

But 200mil for some glamour stuff? I'll take the "inflated" items on the MB at 20mil over 200mil anyday.

It makes all the difference during trade wars. Aggressive sellers are a thing in this game. People will try to drive you out of "their" market. Having a ton of gil laying about makes this simple. Someone with hundreds of millions of gil can afford the temporary loses taken to drive you out. They will drop the prices two, three, sometimes four times as much just to get rid of you. A new player with limited funds has a harder time dealing with that.

Because instead of paying 10mil for an item off the MB, which I can get over a month of just selling what my retainers bring back, and stuff from desynth, if I really like a glamour item that is 200mil, that will take much longer.

Like. You're speaking for "new players" but what if that new player wants the super shiny nice item, they're 100x further away from it, and will not be able to get the item, even if they take up crafting, because there will be an over-saturated market and very few ways to make money in selling things.

Like, to say this is to help the little guys is kinda silly.
