    Final Fantasy and Potions

    When you think of Final Fantasy, you think of a few things. Airships, Chocobos, and Phoenix downs.

    I under stand FFXI never had them, but since it feels like they trying to make XIV more Final fantasy feeling. And with the ALC synths being fixed in a few patches they should look into adding a lot more potions, and removeing the whole 3 min timer on using them. Also make it so they arnt so hard to make as in XI. Megaelixirs should be only potion that is rare, hard to get.

    EDit Prob should put this pst, in the items thread oh well maybe the devs will move it.

    One of the many things coming in 1.21 is the medicine effect revamp. Hopefully they get it right this time.

    People argue having potions and more so, Phoenix downs, make the game too easy... to which I argue, does Phoenix downs make Emerald or ruby weapon too easy? I'm sure the average person doesn't look at those fights and say, oh... all I had to do was us phoenix downs to win... now this is suddenly a no brainer.

    Making them useful but still situational. yes!
    Make them spammable and your main source for healing. No!
    i dont want to be able to run around with 999 potions and use them every 5 seconds to cure myself like in other MMOS.

    As for potions being useful, yes please. It's potions should be play a larger role in the game. Such as drinking potions when you can not recover MP fast enough to finish a fight, or TP potions and so forth. Or maybe even make a class that uses potions exclusively in combat.

    The only other issue with potions in FFXIV is how ridiculously convoluted it is to use it. First you hit U, then you have to scroll around to find the potion you want to use, then finally you have to make sure the selection target is targeting you and not the enemy which it targeting by default. By any chance if you did try to use the potion at the enemy you have to repeat the process all over again. Granted, you can always write a macro to use the potion like in FFXI, but that is no excuse for having such a poor UI design for real time combat.

    Potion use in 2.0, in case you missed it.



    Obvious changes include
    - The ability to set in the action bar (ease of use)
    - Increased stack size
    - A recast visible on the action bar (I hope)

    Obvious in-development picture is obvious. We may not get all that cool stuff, but we can certainly hope.

    Oh ho, havent looked at that pic in months good to see, just hope they do it right. As for spamign potions to sstay alive i dont see why not, if you have them

    I used an Aether. Once.

    I'd like to see them changing the potency of potions to make the actually worth using if they intend to keep the long timer.

    Ragnarok Online would be one example. Instant-effect, zero cooldown heal for about 800.

    I do. If they do that, you will be forced to have several stacks of them on you in every battle, which will make ALC ridiculously rich, inflate the economy and potentially make healing classes useless.

    That's a worst case scenario of course.
