I don't mind it if they add extra things like extra regions or remaking the 2.0 areas into bigger areas with West Shroud, etc
We would need something extra like that to justify not adding new classes.

I can understand some peoples concerns about them keeping up with the growing selection of classes and keeping them balanced, but really adding one unique class is not going to blow up the rest of the teams ability to manage the game, add content, or balance existing classes. They also have such a massive backlog of unique abilities and skills that they can configure or reconfigure that they don't necessarily have to just remake an old class, either.

My own thoughts are they should probably look at final fantasy tactics and try to draw from there, since that game drew from games like Tactics Ogre and forced out of the box thinking. The kind of skills that are historic final fantasy they haven't tapped into yet are Holy Sword skills, Mantra, Geomancy, Dark Arts, Yin Yang Magic, etc. They also haven't tapped into Sword Saint, Templar, or Rune Knight skills yet. Albeit, I think this is why they are trying to come up with an original Job: Classes are linked to weapon groups, so having another class that wields a sword would mean having to come up with a new base sword weapon that is different from paladin and dark knight. Hammers are not used yet, but coming up with a class that wields hammers kind of limits existing skills. Not to mention hammers are not very glamorous weapons, either. Maces are another option along with fans, scythes, Chakram, chain / whip (hello vampire slayer?), crazy floating magic stones / materia, etc.

In the interest of sticking to the lore, imma go with Lominsan "courtesan". id be a RNG based healing class whose main system revolves around giving you a boon that restores HP or buffs overtime or if rng isn't on your side, "infecting" you with a potent and debilitating DoT that will not dissipate until another "healer" tends to you. (As the courtesan that inflicted said DoT you cannot esuna your own joh.... err heal target). At the end of a successful encounter all those healed lose some gil. Oh yeah weapon would be "bag of tricks"

The devs said they are open to a completely different and unique job for XIV, but if they can make its design fit into a past more "iconic" job, they will.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Theres also a very wide variety of jobs available from numerous titles. Some games in the FF series had a job system. Others had actual job titles for the main characters. Then we have non FF games like bravely default, and some of the mana titles that had a job system as well. We also have jobs from the dragon quest series that could be used. Some of which had some rather humorous skills.

I'd be particularly fond of something that was similar to a hybrid between monk and ninja - but as a tank. In a thread in the tank forum I suggested that using nunchuks and kick attacks. Basically I'm thinking of Bruce Lee.
"Hey. Hey, tank! Could you move Zombie B to the AoE zone so we can actually get uptime on the add?..."

"Turn him, please. We can't Trick Attack like that..."

Providing nothing like the above would be a normal occurrence, due to uncharacteristically solid code execution, I'd be fine with a pet tank where the pet has the actual threat, but...

    Emphasis on "uncharacteristically".

All tanks have stances and 1-2-3 combos. All melee have positionals and 1-2-3 combos. All healers have a HoT, a shield, an instant heal and an AoE, and deal damage by applying DoTs and casting a damage spell in between. If they change any of that then the new job will be different from existing ones.

RDM was a unique addition with its flexible casting rotation and the melee aspect. SAM could have been something new but ended up the same old 1-2-3 combos with positionals. A new tank and/or healer job should be next, and not for the reason of coaxing more people to play those roles but for the reason that players who enjoy those roles should receive something new at this point.

My personal wish is that a new healer job would only have physical melee attacks to deal damage and that a new tank would not have 1-2-3 combos. Transforming to a combat form would also be cool.

I have a new idea! New tank: Gatekeeper

Gatekeeper is the last defense of Hydaelyn! He can wield a giant keyblade to smite enemy. His tank stance will have very strong buff that constantly regenerate health, which will generate aggro per tick, and his dps stance will have dot effect to the enemy around him when he uses certain skill. Gatekeeper can use his keyblade to unlock dimensional doors and let in the creatures of other world to fight with him, which provide extra damage and various buffs. Gatekeeper also has positional skills to use, yeah! When the enemy is not casting skill, he can use a skill to "lock" enemy, make them unable to turn around so he can do his positional skills in peace. Job quests will have you to vanquish those heartless Ascians because they are probably up to no good so why not.

    wait a second...
