Just finished the lvl 50 BLM quests.

Basically as a BLM you are indeed tasked with sealing the void. I won't say why to avoid spoiler territory (as much as I can anyway) just in case of whoever ends up reading this, but for the most part BLMs don't get their powers from the void. It's very much drawn from Aether both within and outside of the body. The entire storyline with the youngest brother centers on this as the main plot point: he doesn't have enough aetheric energy within himself to be a BLM. But BLMs can use potions and other techniques to draw power from the world's Aether (if I understood correctly). But yes: they do love making everything go BOOM!

So in that sense, a Void Mage could actually work. The void is all about sending terrible demon-like foes into Eorzea to feast on everyone's aether. So I imagine summoning specific voidsent would be one of the aspects of the job, though whether they'd be permanent like SMN's egis or more temporary attack animations would be a hard choice to make. But I could see them inflicting several debuffs and have mana drain/hp drain abilities as they "feast" on enemy aether.

Since the Echo allows you to peer into another man's mind how about a class that specializes in mind manipulation and control? Could do things like temporarily turn an enemy into an ally or cause a mob of enemies to attack each other for a few seconds. Specializes in debuffing and stunning enemies, making them easier to kill. Hmm, while we are at it we could put said class in heavy armor, give it a tank and dps stance and call it Herald (short for Herald of Hydaelyn).

Whatever they make, we'd better get a healer this time.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Thank you.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

    Or as a ranged tank.

    "deal with my minions".

I'd be particularly fond of something that was similar to a hybrid between monk and ninja - but as a tank. In a thread in the tank forum I suggested that using nunchuks and kick attacks. Basically I'm thinking of Bruce Lee.

Dancer would make much more sense to me as a dps support job like bard. However we already have way too many dps jobs.

That brings up a valid point.

We already have too many DPS jobs.
We already have enough healer jobs.
We already have enough tank jobs.

You can look at any MMO out there and see that no matter how many jobs you add to tank or healer - you don't ever change how many and often even who is playing those jobs.

Add a new tank - most of the people playing it were already playing one of your old tanks. Same for healer. Same for DPS really. People really don't shift their role as much.

So when adding ANY new class it is better to think about 'does this add some concept or playstyle not presently in the game?"

So far FFXIV does a good job of making each class/job feel pretty different when played. Compare that to WoW where many of the tanks feel like the same class with a different color icon... and most of the melee DPS feel even more so that way... ranged have some different space, but in each class even there is at least one "spec" (individual way to configure your class) that if used results in making your play a lot like that of another class.
    - And it's useful to remember WoW didn't start out that way... Though even "back in the day" they had less uniqueness than the list of Jobs in FFXIV...

I bring that up because a big part of why that happened is in two issues:
    1. They did it on purpose to make balance easier in each patch.
    2. They just ran out of ideas with their game engine after having TOO MANY classes...

If we start adding a lot of Jobs to FFXIV... the uniqueness of them will start fading...

And then they might 'homogenize' them even more just to make it easier to balance once the list gets too big to work through in a single meeting at the design table...

What if they didnt add a new job and instead invested that money on improving existing jobs and adding in more content?
