1. Call retainer who has a stack of 99 Clear demimateria III on them
2. Try to give retainer one more Clear Demimatera III
3. Can not stack Clear Demimateria III above 99

4. took both the 99 and the 1 Clear Demimateria III and attempted to stack them together in my inventory, items will not stack into a stack of 100.

Not an error:

* Items exchangeable for gil still have a limit of 99 per slot.

They have no purpose other than to be sold to a NPC for gil, so they don't go past 99.
