Chocobo not getting xp from beast man quests

I've always had my chocobo out during beast man quests, and I'm sure he used to get xp. I've just noticed that he now isn't getting any. Has something changed? Or did I imagine him getting xp from it before?
For info, he's not capped, we are doing the kojin quests and I'm only level 63.

What level is your Chocobo by chance? Once you get to right before level 11 your bird will stop gaining xp until you feed them a Thavnairian Onion. You will need to feed them one every level to let them keep gaining xp. You can get them up to level 20 I believe.

Hmm no idea then. Only other thing I could think of is the mob is too low level to gain xp from but if you're doing the SB beast tribes and you're level 63 that shouldn't be the case.

The mobs need to be within a couple levels of you for chocobo exp to apply.
Not sure how synced quests work in this regard.

Kojin quests should sync to your current level so assuming you get proper credit for the kill, the bird should absolutely get exp. My bird gets exp from Ananta quest kills and I'm all 70s.
My best guess is that maybe other people are in the area and helping you kill the mobs, so it doesn't count as your kill? Maybe it dies before the bird manages to 'tag' it. Something along those lines

It's because the quest mobs don't give exp period. You'll notice you don't get any either even on a class below 70.
