SCH Miasma II. What am I missing?

Hey guys,

As per the tooltip for miasma II. It's 100 potency + 25 for 12s (total of about 200 potency). Comparatively Broil II is 230 potency.

Now I've been looking at 99 percentile scholars on fflogs and they all consistently keep a decent miasma II uptime on single targets (I would say on the order of 50%). Some pushing it way further.

What gives? you would expect scholars to use Broil II rather than miasma II. At first I thought it was because they had spell speed builds but it doesn't really look to be the case (I would say they stand around the 1k ss mark). Instead they have either a ton of piety to make good use of miasma II for those with higher miasma II uptime, or crit as you would expect.

So again... What am I missing? Is miasma II working well with raid buffs? or is it something else?

It's being so used in single target for the simple fact that it's an instant cast and allow you to weave oGCD such as energy drain, chain stratagem, rouse.
As long as your mana allow you to use it, weaving with miasma II is the best thing to do.

Specially when you weave Shadow Flare + ED, that GCD just gave you like 600 potency instead of Broil II's 230. If you only need to use a single oGCD, clipping is not TERRIBLE, but it's usually better to use an instant to do it. If it's a double oGCD, it's better to use Miasma II.

Ok so a bit more of a technical question here related to weaving since we're on the topic.

miasma II + energy drain is an obvious goto dps. Great potency etc.. etc..
miasma II + healing ogcd I'm assuming is better dps than clipping (aka: broil II + ogcd + broil II) I'm going to assume that clipping is a loss larger than 30 potency

But if miasma II is already up.
Ruin II + energy drain should still be better potency than broil II though probably best to hold onto your stack until you can weave with miasma II again.
But what of Ruin II + healing ogcd ? This seems like it would be a dps loss compared to just clipping your ogcd skill?

Also are faerie skills considered ogcd? I know there's an animation for whispering dawn but I can't tell if it's an actual animation lock.

It's better to clip your gcd than ruin II a single weave. Ruin II is for long distance dodging/ mechanics when you have no ogcds to use. It got really bad this expac web with the 20 potency buff.

Fairies work on their own "gcd." Unlike our gcd, they can't weave abilities with spells.

Ruin II is still used to weave if :

=> you need to weave 2 oGCD
=> your mana can't allow you to use Miasma II.

You can actually order the fairy while casting, so in some way you can "weave" them to your casts for better uptime, as you probably use any instant for OGCD.

Yeah I just realized I had rouse macroed and that was the animation lock I was seeing.
