Assigning Retainers

How can you give your old gear to a retainer if it's spirit bonded to you?

In game terms, the retainers are considered part of your inventory. So letting them use your gear is still keeping it on "you". Works for combat gear, crafting gear, glamour gear... whatever you may have.
