    PC Controller goes crazy

SE really needs to address this. I can duplicate the issue on multiple computers and have over the past several years.

Basically the controller on a PC just goes nuts every once in a while, be it running in the same direction for 2 extra seconds without controller response, or a "turbo" button push if the issue happens to happen while you're pushing a button.

Happens with all controllers I've ever tried (probably about 10), wired or wireless.

You can forcefully duplicate the issue by plugging in or unplugging any USB device, so I think the issue is that FFXIV loses contact with the controller briefly whenever the system scans for or finds a new device.

Does anyone happen to have a fix for this, or is it just bad programming?

I've read before that this happens whenever Windows' Device Manager is refreshing device drivers, because FFXIV completely loses contact with the controller when this happens. Sadly, I can't think of any work-around for it, unless there's a way to disable Device Manager refresh while you're playing.

    Try this

With it enabled my controllers go crazy character keeps running when I let go of sticks messes up actions and other tings.
I've lost count of how many arenas ive ran off the edge because the controller went haywire.

I've never had any problems since disabling this. (almost 3 years ago)
windows update has reenabled it occasionally when It updated to a new windows version but just disabled it again and problem solved.

For me the last time I had this issue was some audio software causing the device manager refreshes. Maybe it was periodically checking for headphones or something, I don't know. Took a while to get there though, I tried disabling everything one by one until I found which one was the problem.

It sort of worked. I think the instances of it happening are less, but it does still happen.

Is the power saving turned off on the usb.

Can't remember how to get to that off and I think it's in the power control panel under advanced settings.

It seems to be happening with the same frequency now, even with the device listed above disabled. I can check the USB power but I don't believe that will help as I think I've tried that before. It seems to be literally whenever the system scans for a new device. It has happened on every computer I've ever had since 2.0 came out.. and that's 4 computers with multiple controllers. Wired, wireless.. I just can't get it to stop. I'm growing tired of running off a cliff for no reason.

Thank you for the update crc0427.

Can you describe what you mean by the "controller goes crazy?"

Can you also provide a dxdiag?

I would also suggest doing a clean boot. Simply open the Task Manager and select the 'Start Up' tab and disable everything, then restart your PC.

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!
