Can't do "Hope on the waves"

I have tried this duty at least 10 times. I know it's a DPS race to burn down the robots before they self-destruct, but apparently I just don't have the horsepower.

Any tips for Tanks doing this? Can you live through self-destructs, or is that a definite requirement? Yugiri keeps dying on me.

Should I gear or Materia differently? I have mostly melded for tenacity, should I do Direct Hit instead?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    My guess is you either:

    1. Aren't playing your job properly. As in you're not doing what is necessary to output the requires damage.
    2. Don't have the proper items. As in, you are undergeared. My guess is that this is the problem, so if your ilvl is way below 340, you might wanna try to upgrade.

Another thing that comes to mind is how you go about doing the fight. I remember when I did it, I just basically tried to kill all the things. But towards the end, I realized I was only supposed to kill one of the robots while Yugiri took care of the other.

Im sure you already are but just in case, make sure you're in your DPS stance.
As a DRK, when the robots focussed on Yugiri I just popped The Blackest Night on her and she ate the AoEs and lived. Im pretty sure you can live through explosions too- had one explode on me and I was fine IIRC . Anyways, assuming you play PLD, you should be able to use Clemency/Intervention on Yugiri when she needs it. Good luck!

Yeah, it's possible I'm doing it all wrong, but my ilvl is only 325, so that's where I'm going to focus for right now. Thanks!

NPCs in HW and SB quests count as party members, so you can use your party-only abilities on them. Intervention and Passage should help you out. Though "kill the thing before it kills you (or your NPC companions)" is usually best. Sword Oath and DPS combos! ALL THE SLASHIES!

So, I did this at ilvl 302 as DPS. As DRK, you need your DPS stance on. The self destruct explosions cause a vulnerability up debuff. This does stack, so best to only take one explosion at a time. When the one comes out, it's fine if you can't get it down on time. Now when the two come out, try to kill just one, by immediately attacking it once it's out. When you defeat the main dude in his weird mecha, the 4 magiteck things will come out. Try to get them all into Yugiri's AoE attack. Once it goes off, it takes all 4 down to like 5% health or less. Then pick them off ASAP before they all self-destruct.

I just completed the Lv60 end-of-Heavensward SCH quest battle last night on my alt, and I don't think this is the case in all circumstances. Succor (AoE healing/shield spell) didn't seem to apply the shield, though single-target Adloquium did. But then the "spread Adlo to party members" spell didn't spread it.

I'm pretty sure the single-target abilities could be applied in ARR as well.

Either way it seems closer to how you can interact with alliance members. You can target a single player from another alliance for a direct spell (certainly for raises, not sure about status effects) but AoE healing spells will only affect players on your party list.

My guess is that you need to get out of shield oath and be in sword oath the entire time. make sure you are doing this rotation and drop the halone combo entirely.
