Targeting Issues on PS4?

Hi - I've been having this problem for a long while and I don't even remember when it started but sometimes when I try to use the D-Pad on my PS4 controller the cursor starts freaking out and refusing to target things be they in the over world or in the game menus. I tried relogging, i tried buying a new controller thinking that was the issue, but it was just Final Fantasy having the problem and none of my other games on my ps4 are having issues with targeting. I really want to avoid having to uninstall and reinstall the game given how large patch files and expansions and the like are.

Is there anyone who might be able to help me avoid reinstalling?

Can you clarify something, did you purchase a new controller? Your post suggests that, but it sounds like you decided against it.

When this happens, is your controller connected wirelessly or with a wire?
