Oh my god. Almost to 8 pages and this “debate” is still going on? This is a discussion forum. Not a university term paper, masters thesis, or dissertation. Personally, I think it’s much easier to link to the exact post you are referencing, which this forum gives you the ability to do, rather than link a page and basically tell people to go find it. It has nothing to do with the “proper” way to cite something, because this isn’t a term paper. It’s a forum thread.

I thought this thread was supposed to be about Eureka rewards, but it’s still about the “proper” way to cite a source. Which is irrelevant here.

OP was way more disruptive to their own thread than anyone else, and the best part? The Eureka discussion moved on to another non-slapfest thread (like two or three of them, actually) making this one pointless.

The quote isn't an insult it's a fact. No author of a book or someone citing a book will take into account people's devices and how they modify it (there could be hundreds of configurations). That's not an attack that's pointing out how changing settings is your own circumstance. I don't think you know what insults mean.

I think it's a case of the pot calling the kettle black when she says he is obsessive.

I am simply showing you the real world, do with my advice as you wish. It was not a "soapbox" as you put it, and everything I said is 100% truth, and supported with your own posts.

The TC chooses to keep auguring about these irrelevant points though. It would be as you say if the TC would just say "thank you for the advice" like most people, like other people pointed out. instead they chose to keep auguring to argue.

So if the TC is derailing their own thread, is that the new topic or what?

Keep in mind what the TC said to me:

It is clear you didn't read the thread at all. Anyone changing their posts per page settings are at fault here. If you bought a digital book which you could arrange differently it's up to you to change back to default. Instead some people here are getting into petty nuances just for the sake of argument

So go suggest SE remove the options of how meny posts to display per page? I mean... wth?

I do not understand how some onlookers can imply people posting to the TC are doing anything wrong. Several people including myself where just trying to help the TC, then they shoot back with a statement like "Anyone changing their posts per page settings are at fault here" ? How is anyone else to blame but the TC for trying to troll others?

When someone on the internet is wrong nobody can go on with their lives, to take out the trash or watch the next episode of boruto's dad, until the wrong opinion has been purged by the benevolent and all encompassing force of "everyone agrees with me now". okay, and to quote something super correctly, but there is no quote button because the topic is locked... you copy the text you want to quote and then click on the #26 in the upper right corner of the post and copy the number at the end of the url. that number is the ID of the post you want to quote. now use the quote tags and fill in the name of the person you want to quote and the ID of the post like this:

that actually helps me, I did not even know how to reference quotes from threads that are locked. I am sure the TC will ignore it though and say something about how it is people's fault for having different post counts per page settings. I never thought I'd see the day someone making drama over forum settings
