Diamonds are common, though. Plus the whole thing where we can literally manufacture them.

It's just artificial inflation by a company holding a monopoly, coupled with obscene marketing techniques that have ingrained the idea that diamonds are valuable.

They are intrinsically worthless. That's not just me saying it. That's literally the chairman of the De Beers company that has the monopoly on them.
