Low supply of primal components to fuel glamour market

    Hello,

I came back to the game recently and am noticing that the glowy primal weapon market seems rather anemic on balmung, which is probably not a good sign given this is one of the most active servers in the game. As much as crafters like to earn large amounts of gil from selling primal weapons and other cosmetic versions of old raid gear, this entire market depends on groups actually farming and supplying the components to the market, which simply isn't happening anymore. As time progresses I don't forsee this changing since very few people would want to revisit EX Sepherot and farm him for hours unless they don't have to relearn the mechanics.

Could we get an alternative way to get these materials in game? Maybe pay with tomestones or something? I want to own some sepherot EX glowy cool weapons, but that can't physically happen unless there is enough of them to drive competition on the market. Well, unless someone really wants to pay that one guy that put one up for five to ten million gil.

One of the more popular suggestions is a compromise - get it via totems of said primal. The motivation will be that everyone in the party is working towards their item, not just the one lucky person who'd win the roll if it even drops at all, just like how it works with the birds

Yeah, I think this is an issue with many things. I know the coeurl bikini is a lot pricier because one of the components comes from a big fish you needed to farm and desynth in ARR, but by now no one worries about since you don't need the level 50 gear from Mor Dhona. Or the coil replica gear, which you either got the stones from coil, or the gear itself from POTD, and both have declined as a source since the latter players don't bother with chests as much. I used to desynth coil gear for mats, thats how prevalent it used to be, now its dead.

Or you could farm what you need rather than relying on your gil and other people farming it. The old fights are very easy now.

You make a good point, but what happens when no one wants to farm the content? I've seen this argument play out many times in the past and the fact is that content is born, it lives, and eventually it becomes forgotten. That is the problem we are now dealing with when it comes to crafted goods using the older materials. Also, the entire point of having a currency system is to provide a means of trade, as people earning gil are still spending time to earn that gil. It's a measure of the effort they put into the game just as much as tomestones are.

The main reason the two currencies are segregated is because they need a way to keep people from clearing the end game too fast. My own feeling is if they are willing to let people buy carbontwine to upgrade leveling gear at this point there's not much reason to not allow crafters to buy up parts needed for old primal glamour and other items. If implemented right it could actually help fund and bring in more crafters as well. Imagine how nice it would be if crafters could go earn some kind of currency while leveling and spend it on old items to sell. Maybe early on it's not the primal items, but they could put other things in that are less valuable early on.

rng ruins content, it's what ruins all these korean mmos.
I can stand rng in raids because there's a lot of options/chances to get something

The chance you get a fiend sap from sephirot is very very minimal, the lowest form of rng. Not only is the fiend sap a sub 10% drop but then you have to try rng again with 7 other people. That's not fun and it turns the fight into a trivial treadmill with no reward at the end.

Like some have suggested, the best way to solve this is clearly with a totem/token system, when you have 20 or maybe even 30 totems you can trade it for a sap. Or if not that then increase the drop %. Also the other problem is they release the glowing primal weapons too slowly..we're in stormblood now and we still don't have nidhogg's, sophia's, and zurvan's glowing weapons..Susano's? Lakshmi's?

Then the price for those components will go up, and people will notice. Then they'll farm it because it's worth it.. then the supply will go up. Then it'll get cheaper.
