Personally if instead of rolling on equipment parts, we just automatically got them, and then they increased how many parts we need, that'd be a fairer system.
It would still require doing more than just a few runs because of the increase in items needed, but it would mean you don't get a person who gets their Bracelet (bolt x1) after 1 run while another person is unlucky in RNG to have to wait for 10+ runs. Instead, if they made it an auto-drop that required 5 items, then both players would get it after running it 5 times. Much fairer.
It's not the grind that's a problem, it's the lack of certainty and plannability.
*cough* just remember Atma farming. The grind wasn't the problem, it's that some people would get theirs within 15 minutes while others would farm for hours and still never see their atma drop. If it had been a guaranteed drop, but the quantity to bring in was increased, it would have been much more accepted and you'd see a lot less people suffer FATE PTSD by association.
Personally I much prefer a time based grind that is based on how many times I run it, rather than one that is based on the RNG that I win the roll (or that something actually drops!), especially when pugs are involved as not everyone has statics and honestly the game shouldn't need for us to have to make statics to get a fair chance at loot.
