Alt characters and housing

That was a glitch they fixed years ago. You used to be able to log them out while in dungeons, and send them a request while on the other char since it leaves your char in that instance. You can no longer send requests to them this way though.

I wish that I could share my house with my alts. And would also love to be able to share my private house with more people (I have too many friends without houses)

Why be coy about it unless it's a way that breaks the TOS, then? If it's a legitimate use of a feature then there's no harm in telling people about it.

There WAS a way recently, yes. I don't know if it still works, rumor is they fixed it last patch. If you guys are curious, visit the reddit ffxiv forums. There's no 3rd party software or any sort of "hacks" but the mods are pretty ban happy here. No one will want to risk it.

Confirmed it worked for me though. I can now share my house with my alts and send them mail. It's glorious, literally a true quality of life feature.

I mean, I'll freely admit that I snuck mine in when the old instance dc/logout bug was still in, but I'm still honestly flabbergasted that such a simple feature isn't made baseline for us. Why do all these hush-hush workarounds rather than work on convincing the developers that it's a feature we want that they should add?

I heard the reason was to encourage people to not share accounts. The idea being that if you can't send help to your friend/sibling through mail, it would encourage them to buy their own account. I don't know if this is cultural thing, but as for myself, it sounds very backward thinking. And now that houses are account locked, which again I think is good idea in itself, we should really not be locked out of the content we already have on other characters. Make the alts being automatically regarded as owners for any other purpose than name in owner list, if the friend listing is out of question. Though I think we really should be able to transfer stuff between our alts as well. They are our own characters after all.

Also not possible as the restriction extends to FCs too. Got a house on your main fc? Can't buy any other FC houses.

More on topic, I absolutely and wholeheartedly agree that we should be able to share houses with our own alts. The way it is now you would have to decide on one single charakter that gets a house on a server. I must admit, I am somewhat of an altoholic. I have all 8 characters I could have on Omega. This way, not even friendlisting them all would grant them access to my house. I just want to be able to sit in my garden and log out somewhere nice Q.Q

No, no, no... you misunderstood. That's not what was being said. The subject is that Sida wanted to obtain housing for her alt characters. So my suggestion was to offer the only other current alternative in acquiring housing for what she wanted to do with her and her alt characters which would be to create a free company, have contain at least four people (which would be her alts) and level it up to Rank 6 in order to purchase a house a plot. That way, her alts would have access to "housing". That's what I did for my characters, but my initial reason was just so I could use the FC chest as a means to transfer items between my character. The housing feature was more of a bonus since I had never intentionally thought of purchasing one. Of course, that would mean she can't be part of her current free company if she does that. At least... I'm pretty sure that's what we're talking about and if not, then ignore what I said...
