for years i have had the same issues across win 7 win 8 and win 10 on multiple systems and just recently i found a cause. Microsoft strikes again!

you need to remove a few windows updates namely the Net Quality rollup packages
"Preview for Security and Quality rollup for .NET framework,3.5,4.52,4.6,4.61,4.62,4.7"
"Security and Quality rollup for .NET framework,3.5,4.52,4.6,4.61,4.62,4.7" remove all of them they are usually the last ones that have installed then totally shut off windows update because they change them around to sneak them in under different headings ones that need to be removed are the 25.9mb and 19.1mb once i did this after noticing multiple BSOD and DX errors i can now play any game on any DX setting! happy gaming o7

That.... wouldnt make sense in our case because we did not update anything on windows recently, and these crashes started a few days ago.

But I guess it wouldnt hurt to try?

    EDIT
Do you know the codes of those specific updates that when removed solved your problem?
The names you provided are quite generic for that kind of update.

    KB4043767
    KB4019114
    KB4042078

are the 3 i removed on 2 systems one win7 pro x64 and one 8.1x64 both rigs run flawlessly in Dx11 now im not quite sure why those updates cause my crashes but after going update to update removing one at a time i found those 3 was my main culprits

And once again, this started to happen after a patch/maintenance.

    Her system:

    Motherboard: Intel DH61BR
    CPU: Intel Core i5-3330
    RAM: 8GB
    OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
    GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

She's just playing and suddenly the game freezes, she can still hear sounds of stuff happening but the screen is frozen. If she tries to move, I can see her character moving a bit, but eventually it crashes.
Sometimes the screen just goes black and it says directx fatal error and the game closes, or the game disconnects and gives a 90002, 90001 or 90006 message.

Most of the time she plays with pingzapper, discord and chrome on the background, but we have tried to run just the game and it still crashes.

The last time this happened, back in Heavensward, we reinstalled the game from scratch and it fixed the problem. This time, it did not work.

    We have tried:

    - Reinstalling the game
    - Updated the GPU video drivers (we even made a clean install of the latest drivers)
    - Disabling all kinds of overlays, including Windows Aero
    - Fiddled with boosts and slight voltage increases in EVGA experience
    - Fiddled with the game's graphic settings
    - Fiddled with nvidia control panel, forcing the gpu to ignore energy saving and focus on performance
    - We tried launching ffxiv both on directx11 and directx9, and both eventually crash

And we did some other stuff that I dont quite remember.

Some of these improved the situation a bit. She would freeze all the time, anywhere. Now freezes more frequently while we're raiding. Which still sucks a lot.

Oh, btw, we tried stress tests with FurMark, and things went fine. She can also play Overwatch and Witcher 3, both on the highest settings, with absolutely no problem, so it's something specific to FFXIV.
Something broke after the last patch/maintenance.
We dont know what else we can do.
The issue you are describing is a driver crash. It's not Final Fantasy XIV per se, more of how the game will interact with your PC (which is why other games may not exhibit the same error). I would suggest doing a clean boot. For Windows 7, click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter to start the System Configuration utility. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.

Since you are also getting disconnection errors, I will provide some connection troubleshooting as this may be connected:
Make sure you are on a wired connection (as opposed to wireless).
Reset your router by turning it off and back on.
Make sure your anti-virus/firewall has exceptions for Final Fantasy XIV
Check the following Port Ranges on your router/modem to ensure that the following Port Ranges have been opened/forwarded/triggered:
    ▼TCP
    54992 through 54994,
    55006 through 55007,
    55021 through 55040

Your ISP may forward these ports for you.*

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

So, we may have solved the problem....
after countless stupid shit we did.

I've opened her case, took the gpu out, cleaned it as best as I could, and put it back.

Also, while I was cleaning it, I've noticed the "SC" on the sticker. It stands for SuperClocked. So, it has a factory overclock. I started to search the internet to see if factory OC'd gpus are wont to misbehave. And the answer is "perhaps".

So I researched a bit more (about underclocking) and found an option on nvidia control panel, called debug mode, in which it returns the gpu clock to stock factory clocks.

Booted it up, dx 11, did some stuff that would otherwise crash the game, and it looks and feels fine.

Was it the cleaning? The removing and putting it back? The debug mode?

We dont know. Maybe it wanted to be hold in my hands a bit.

    Hoping it stays this way.
Thank you kindly, everyone that helped <3

The issue that you are having seems to coincide with the issue being discussed in the following thread. Please look over the following thread and post your information there if relevant.

I just wanted to add that what was happening to your girlfriend sounds like a driver reset (often referred to as a TDR), probably related to stress since underclocking solved the issue. I've had this happen to me in this game and numerous games; however, this one handles them a bit less elegantly. In other games, the screen just freezes up as sounds resume. Then I see a Windows notification at the bottom right that says that the graphics driver has successfully recovered. Then the game either proceeds as normal or becomes super laggy until restart. This game, however, causes my monitor to lose signal when this happens. Once my graphics drivers have reset, I simply see a DirectX error generated by the game. But if I go to Event Viewer, I see an event corresponding to the TDR.

I experience them very rarely now, but it used to be extremely frequent. This is specific to my card, but the fans won't spin faster than 30% without software intervention, so my card was constantly overheating. I run Precision X with an aggressive fan curve to help keep it cool. I would recommend restoring the factory overclock, forcing the fans to spin at full speed for testing, and checking them for dust. It may be something else, but since the last patch, my card has been running *way* hotter for some reason. In fact, I've experienced 2 TDRs thus far, whereas before, it was never an issue with this game. But I can confirm that heat is the problem in my case (but I *am* on an old potato!)
