How to Undercut

I'd rather SE let capitalism and supply and demand dictate the market, thanks. They're not forcing us to play the marketboard. Imposing unneeded restrictions would make succeeding at it much less enjoyable.

Or SE should go back to the XI days where you didn't see the prices of said item and you had to actually bid on items. Seeing the prices on items was the worst thing they ever did. Also bring back taxes when you put stuff up on the MB to discourage the constant abuse of pricing changing.

Other games have buy and sell order to prevent excessive undercutting, because some people would already buy it at that price. Undercutting or Overbidding would still exist, but it wouldn't spread so much anymore so quick.

I like to go 1 gil, then if they under cut me again I go 100k, then 2 gil, and then 200k. The limbo dance.

It's good to undercut by at least 50%, let's other crafters know you are serious and don't care about their dreams. Then they think twice about trying to squeeze in on your business.

I usually set mine to fall just short of what the lowest price is, but I also take market tax into account when I do that too so it could end up being something a little more substantial on larger profit items.

Yeah idk what people say about "free market" this game has excessive price undercutting. At worst people with no life prevents people from selling stuff, or makes them so low it is not worth making/ doing.

It is one thing to change prices every hour or every day, not every second for 1 hour from spamming 2 different retainers to keep a pace like that.

I'll undercut by 1 gil because of two reasons:

(1) It really really pisses some people off so there is always the possibility I get a good laugh out of someone else's rage. You will then see these people get pissed off and cut by massive amounts out of spite. I'll then buy these and then mark EVERYTHING up to prices well above where they were before so LOL jokes on you.

(2) To me it shows respect to the other people crafting/gathering and selling on the MB. Keeping the price cut low keeps the prices high thus we're all making more money in the end.

What's the point of undercutting by 500 gil?
The point of undercutting is not only to be the lowest on the market, but to convince people that they're better off teleporting to the town your item is listed in to buy the item. Teleports cost more than 500gil a lot of the times.. Lol...

5-10k is a nicer amount. Hell, on big ticket items you can drop it by much more than that and not make a dint in it.
