While you're at it, you might try looking up these words:
    • Pedestrian
    • Hackneyed
    • Insipid

And hey, when it comes to incentive, what's better than:

Lacking vigor or interest: "insipid, shallow books"

    Define Hackneyed

What's funny is those three words express your opinion... while incentive is fact. Curious, yes quite, yes... very.

...of this current 'mount giveaway' direction in ffxiv? Yes they do. And I'd add short-sighted to the list as well.

They are concepts I would like this game to avoid in general. Consider them a measuring stick when evaluating what incentives you should steer clear of when promoting this game.

But some people could care less I suppose.

You mean when promoting a game that has a lot of work and changes ahead of it and they could use extra money to fund?

"Come get an exclusive mount" VS. "Come play this game, but don't get used to it... it's going to completely change"

Now at 2.0 I'd hope (keyword hope) they use things like "Completely overhauled Battle System, Completely overhauled Map design, Completely Overhauled <insert everything here>, Brand New <end game content here>"

But right now... a free goobbue and trying to attract 'collectors' is what they are going for.

    Your sight is short, imo.

    Hardly

I have standards. I want this to be a FF MMO. Its the primary reason I (and many others) purchased the game.

Suppose the devs decided to add the following to ver 2.0:
    • Open-World PvP
    • Giant breasts (DD+) and stripper outfits
    • Blood sprays
    • Flying mounts (eg Griffons) instead of airships
    • Unconventional FF player races - eg devi-lpeople, bears, Argonians, etc..
    • Horse mounts

Would you find any of it non-thematic? Or would you just rubber-stamp it all because it sounds 'fun'?

    I'm curious.

Okay, okay. I was on board with you for most of this debate, up til here. While I don't like the general direction FFXIV has taken (goobbue mounts, moogle weapons) because there's not a lot of substantial or story-centric content, many of the things you just mentioned do have precedents in FF and wouldn't break the game.

    Dragon hybrid?
    Gria - http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Gria

    Big breasts and skimpy outfits?
    Viera - http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Viera

    Fairies - http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/F...l_Fantasy_III)

And you really can't make a point about "Open World PvP" because only one other game from the FF series was MMO. For many of the series' games, you were definitely pitted against many more humanoids than in FFXI.

That said, I absolutely DO NOT want flying mounts, besides airships, and would prefer no blood splatter.

EDIT: In the Viera pic.. is it just me, or is that Bangaa checking out her "big breasts?" o.0
