AUUUGH! I'm trying to DRAW the gravestone and it's killing me that I have no idea what is says!!There's no way to edit the title of the thread.
That being said this isn't that big of a deal, the op will probably get their answer soon and then the thread will probably get washed off the first page anyway :P
On topic however, I never even noticed it said anything at all. I've been there once and didnt pay that much attention. It's quite possible that it doesnt say anything underneath and they merely put scribble to make it resemble words. Or it could be written in another language.
Or its so badly textured like some other things in this game that no one will ever truly be able to make out what it says. who knows.
Just go with his motto.
"A knight lives to serve. To protect. To sacrifice. There is no greater calling..."
Have fun. ^_^b
Good effort, but even though you flagged it as spoilers, "memorial" still gives away the same plot point, right in the title. You just made sure that anyone who wasn't sure before, now knows it's a spoiler. Might I suggest something like '[Spoilers] Gravestone Text in Coerthas.' I'm sure anyone who has finished that part of MSQ will know which grave you are talking about.
On topic, it says nothing in English. All of the text that appears on signs/posters/etc. in the game is in some sort of weird runic alphabet. Idk if it's gibberish or if SE went to the effort of making an actual written language for Eorzean (doubtful) but it's possible it might be some sort of code. My money is on gibberish though. Just try to copy the symbols as best you can.

To be honest, at that point, once someone sees (SPOILER), they should probably stop reading...But I'll edit it again.Good effort, but even though you flagged it as spoilers, "memorial" still gives away the same plot point, right in the title. Well, seeing as we are discussing it now...
Who else has gone back there and got the short scene with Francel? And also if you go back and talk to him at his house near the Locks.
The last four words are: Forever yours, Violet Fire (my toons name)
Seeing as he pops up every time you walk within the area, I'm sure anyone who has visited the site has seen him, lol.
Wha? What you said does not look like what is on the stone, lol. And how would they incorporate your character name onto it? I don't think that's right. The first word looks to be about only 5 letters, anyway.

She was being sarcastic. And since you seemed to miss it-

Always possible that people haven't realised it's accessible. I mentioned it to my FC and not everyone had seen it.
It's also worth talking to people around Camp Dragonhead - quite a few have relevant dialogue after Hauchefant dies, and then it changes again after you pass Heavensward's credits.
