Poll: Which of these FF jobs would you like to see next?

    Link to Poll

I made similar poll during HW, before we knew what jobs were coming in SB.
I thought it would be fun to do now during SB.

SAM and RDM both made the top 5 of my last poll (SAM was 1st, RDM was 3rd).

For those who have never played a Final Fantasy game and/or Final Fantasy game with a job system, here are some short descriptions of the jobs on the poll:

Arithmetician/Calculator: Uses abilities to alter the damage formulas of their spells. Came from Tactics.
Beastmaster: Controls animals/beasts. Can sometimes summon them. Usually physical.
Blue Mage: Learns spells and skills from enemies. Known as Gun Mage in X-2.
Cannoneer: Attacks from afar with a cannon. Sometimes has supportive shells. Came from Tactics Advanced
Chemist: Uses items. Usuall can use items more proficiently and can mix two-or-more for crazy effects.
Chocobo Knight: Battles with and/or on a Chocobo companion. Came from Tactics Advanced.
Corsair: Pirates with gambling buffs and guns. Came from XI.
Dancer: Uses dances. Sometimes they're buffs, sometimes their debuffs, sometimes jacks-of-all-trades.
Geomancer: Mage that usually involves the environment with their magic.
Green Mage: Mages that focus on buffs and debuffs. Came from Tactics A2.
Gunner: Uses guns. Sometimes TWO guns. X-2's version is probably the most well know.
Hunter/Ranger/Sniper: Archers. Sometimes uses traps. Sometimes summons animals.
Juggler: Clowns with debuffs. Came from Tactics Advance.
Morpher: Transform into monsters. Came from Tactics Advance.
Mystic/ Oracle: Specializes in debuffs. Sometimes predicts the future.
Mystic Knight/Rune Fencer/Spellblade: Puts magic on their swords. Sometimes elemental magic, sometimes debuffs.
Necromancer: Uses dark magic and summons the undead. Came from V.
Orator/Mediator: They talk and things happen. Came from Tactics.
    Psychic: X-men. Came from X-2.
Puppetmaster: Fight along side a puppet. Came from XI.
Sage: Uses powerful Black and White spells.
Time Mage: Uses time and space magic.
Viking: A physical class. Usually uses Hammers and Axes. Sometime has water or thunder spells/skills.

Mystic Knight/Rune Fencer/Spellblade would be my vote.

I've always wanted a melee-mage that's not a "I have magic in one hand, and a sword in the other" like the ones we have now, but instead a "I have a sword held with both hands, and it's on fire. So I'm going to burn you while I cut you" melee-mage.

I would like to see Time Mage, Oracle, Mediator, or Chemist. I think there should be more support magic classes, and a non-magic healer would be really cool.

Edit: Dancer also would be really great lol

Dancer. Dancer dancer dancer. Too aesthetically pleasing to not be my vote. I JUST WANNA DANCE

Second choice would have to be Beastmaster. I like the idea of befriending animals in pretty much any context, lol.

Time Mage may be my third go-to, if only because I can actually imagine the type of spells being easily implemented and unique. Blue Mage sounds cool in theory but I can't think of a way that it would work as far as learning skills, considering the skill progression style of XIV. Mystic Knight is also a neat idea in my opinion, but based on the description alone it comes off too similar to Red Mage, which is one of the newest jobs no less, so I don't see it happening...unless they make it into some kind of Tank role?

To be honest, I like a lot of the ideas behind many of the jobs listed, especially from being a Tactics fan. For most of them, including my top choices, I think there's just an implementation/uniqueness problem that needs figuring.

I'd be happy with Dancer, Chemist or Beast Master. But I also have pretty clear ideas of what I want those classes to be so... yeah.

Arithmetician has always seemed odd to me because if it were to be in the game, then 1) it would have to find REALLY good differentiation from Arcanist, and 2) it would have to be able to work without percent-based skills since judging off of the 3.0 adjustment to Lustrate for Scholars, such skills just wouldn't fly.

Beastmaster will probably happen in the very distant future once pet controls can finally be fixed.

Blue Mage.....*points to sig below*. The short version is that it could be done, but not in any way that the XI diehards would approve of.

Cannoneer & Chemist individually seem too bland to me, although combining the two would be a lot more interesting.

Chocobo Knight looks cool at first until you realize that Roegadyns are a thing and then having to visualize a big fat chocobo with a big fat Roegadyn on it that could potentially be bigger than a lot of enemy hitboxes.

Corsair feels like a combination of Astrologian and Machinist to create a masochist's dream job.

Dancer is going to happen eventually, and I'm almost positive it's going to upset some group of people when it's announced.

Geomancer would only be cool when we get to see that what would be the playable version would be a million times cooler than anything seen in that Astrologian storyline.

Gunner is already a thing. It's called "Machinist". Moving on....

Hunter and any other bow-type job, unless they're rocking at least one crossbow, probably won't see the light of day so long as Bard is still a thing.

Juggler would be cool, which reminds me that I should update this concept.

Mystic could potentially be slated for 5.0 because of Yoshi's original intention of wanting an Eastern-themed caster class.

Mystic Knight would probably be the closest thing we'd get to a Garlean job. Lots of potential for it, but not really something I personally find interesting.

Necromancer has a whole other thread about it, and is currently identified in the game as just a Black Mage on steroids.

Orator is one of those jobs that could only exist in FFT. It's kinda like making Alphinaud his own job, and nobody wants that.

Psychic I wouldn't mind just to see how the lore for it would go.

Puppetmaster, like Beastmaster, also falls into that category of "not until pet controls get fixed". I'd also love to see something that doesn't look like the XI version.

Sage, as it usually is in FF games, is likely going to be too powerful mechanically, so it's definitely something that'd have to undergo extreme changes for it to happen.

Time Mage is another job that would likely wind up very different not only due to how many abilities associated with Time Mage belong to Astrologian, but also because Time Mage in the HW Astrologian seems to be just an empowered Astrologian.

Viking would be nice, but given how much devs aim for some level of accuracy for their historical inspirations, they likely wouldn't use hammers. Maybe a halfspear and shield or a one-handed axe and shield because all the other weapons that Vikings would have actually been historically known to use are already taken.

My vote went to Green Mage with Morpher being a close second since that's the closest we'd get to bona fide DoM tanks.

i votet for Viking because i really want to see a melee-DD with a huuuge badass weapon, like a two hander hammer, and the Viking is the best bet to get one.

As Kazrah mentioned, most of those Jobs you mentioned Mimilu are either already in the game under different names (Time Mage is virtually AST, Geomancer is literally what CNJ is called in the Far East, Ranger/Hunter is ARC as Gridanian ARCs are stated as going on 'rangings' in 1.0's story etc), or have mechanics and ideas that are used by existing Jobs or classes that were planned for the game but ultimately never implemented (Gunner is the never implemented Musketeer class that was originally planned for 1.0 and ultimately evolved into MCH, Mystic was planend for 1.0 but never added apart from dummied out reference to 'Mysticism' as a skillset and ultimately evolved into AST etc etc).

And some of those ideas for Jobs simply would not work in a MMO environment as they were designed for strategy RPGs that require a totally different design paradigm (Calculator/Arithmetician is a perfect example of this; its whole mechanic involves mathematics to generate spells by taking character and enemy levels and stats into account which can all be seen at a glance in FFT's GUI, and also works well in an isometric, grid based battlefield. Such a concept simply does not work in a real time battle engine such as FFXIV's.)

And some of those Jobs are simply prevented by the game's lore, specifically morally dubious actions that simply would not fit the whole idea of the player's character as the Warrior of Light (aka, Necromancer is completely impossible due to the game's storyline stating outright that resurrection of the dead is a taboo of the highest order as it's delving into the use of the Void, something that the game's storyline time and time again mentions as totally and utterly wrong. This is also why we got ROG instead of Thief - Yoshi specifically stated that he chose to call them 'rogues' as he felt that the whole idea of thieves as a player class was morally dubious if we're going around being called Eorzea's champion. So this thus precludes any kind of Necromancer class as well I'm afraid.).

Hence I do not believe over 90% of those Jobs mentioned will ever appear here in FFXIV I'm afraid, with the possible exceptions of Dancer and maybe Blue Mage and Beastmaster (as those three have been often requested by players and could theoretically fit into the game well enough mechanic wise, not to mention there has been lots of discussion by Yoshi and the development team about them in the past). But we'll see either way.
