PC player advise or help (PS4 to Laptop)

Well I recently bought a pretty good laptop the can run XIV at max/good setting...
Here where I need help, I been playing XIV since release on PS3/PS4 I'll probably continue playing it since system switching no a issues..... But I been traying to figure out how to play with mouse and keyboard and I'm having major hard time I'm thinking of placing controller but I Wana keep traying with mouse for a bit more to see if I get it....(never play any other MMO besides XIV lol)
Do you guys have any advice or cool stuff to know? Because right now Im back to a trash player x'D

Well first off congrats on the new pc. Secondly just take it slow. I know its frustrating. Basically its like learning how to walk all over again. Just run some low level dungeons and get your bearings on your key binds and the like.

My personal recommendation is to get a nice mmo mouse. it will allow you to make better use of both hands and have a better range of key presses. another great thing about mouse and keyboard is that you can have buttons off to the side just for utility sake like items or menu icons. Here's my most used key set up for an example.

I have a gaming laptop and use a Xbox One controller, very comfortable to use and the cross hotbar is great, plus you don't need to have all that trash on your screen.

I'm not sure why you'd stop playing controller if you're used to it already. I used a controller since 2.0's release on PC and it's been great. Keyboard for if I wanna talk, mouse if I need to precision click on something but everything else has been hunky-dory. I'm pretty sure you can just plug your controller straight into the PC if its a standard ps4 one.

Good on you for trying to learn a new way, but controller vs mouse has no real winner in terms of gameplay.

I think it's already been suggested, but I'd get a gaming mouse. There are some affordable ones that have a ton of buttons (the one I use has 12 on the side and a couple near the LMB and RMB). It's super handy, and you can customize the keypresses on the mouse and combine them with your keybinds in-game with alt, ctrl, and shift combos. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it's really worth it.

I use my wireless PS4. You have to download a program to pair it, but after that it's all good.

    Welcome to the master race.

The name of the game is really practice.

We all do it a little differently, I usually use 3 bars with ctrl and alt keys as modifiers and just click seldom used abilities off to the right. Mounts, sprint, teleport, etc on a 4th bar.

Just setup your bar with your common abilities in easy reach and arrange it 'till it feels comfortable to play. Also using wasd vs the arrow keys helps a ton.

    - lookup other peoples hotbar set ups for ideas
    - try out the skills through dummies, with a squadron, stone+sky+sea, FATEs (this is my go-to if I need practice)
    - I agree with needing to own good hardware, because keyboard ghosting and mouse sensor dpi are a thing
    - make sure you exercise your wrists, carpal tunnel syndrome is also a thing
    - if you find m+kb combo is too tedious, just stick with a controller
    good luck and have fun!
