    my unpopular opinion.

I love FATEs. most people hate them, and I think that they are great way to pass the time while levelling up a DPS class.I do agree with Squintina that reward structures in events tied to FATEs are really bad. I also think that for certain mats you need (hides, skins, furs, meat, etc) I think that FATEs that involve those types of enemies should reward you with those mats. If you are culinarian, leatherworker, etc. it saves you a lot of time if you are able to grab those up in mass quantities.

You can also turn the thought process the other way around and think:"If I am only willing to put in so much effort, which content (or game) can I still engage in?"

There's a fairly noticeabe negative correlation between difficulty and participation - Lower difficulty translates to higher participation given everything else is equal. We've seen as much with the raids, the reward scheme has been pretty much identical since Gordias but the easier tiers have seen considerably more participation. This might be attributable to just that phenomenon: People are only willing to put in so much effort and they don't participate if the effort required exceeds their tolerance threshold. Then, when you lower the effort required, it follows that it fits into the tolerance threshold of more people and thus, participation goes up.

This becomes quite relevant when you think about the limits of gradual difficulty increases. Can we bring everyone to the point where Ultimate is a cakewalk to a pug by simply gradually increasing the overall difficulty bit by bit perpetually? Or will people jump ship sometime before getting there? And if so, why and at which point? And if you cannot bring everyone to 'that' level, that begs the question what level you 'can' bring everyone up to. Does the approach have a limit and is it an universal or an individual one? And who decides it?

Questions over questions and without some concrete study, no real answers.

Personally, though, I'm sceptical of the idea of "teaching the playerbase". I think it's largely futile.

I'm a bit slower to react due to age than the next person so being able to not be on such a strict rotation has made it easier for me to learn encounters. While I had some issues before, it wasn't enough to stop me from clearing. Now it's become easier. While other people find it brain dead, I don't think that every class needs to have a deep degree of depth or an insanely high skill ceiling to do well.

That instead, encounters should be more thought provoking and mechanically intensive based on design and revolve around utilities players have available in the game, not necessarily a "super high skill ceiling with super DPS race".
Ahhhh yes! I completely agree! So many of my FC mates say that Warrior is now "broken", but I highly disagree.

I guess I'm piggy-backing a bit, but... ah well. I don't hate FATEs, but I definitely do NOT enjoy FATE based quests. Especially the FATE quests that involve multiple FATEs in different areas, forcing you to teleport constantly just to see if one of the FATEs you need is up. It's quite tiresome.

I guess its only fair for my unpopular opinions.

Beast Tribes need to go. The quests you do are too small in scope and too boring to be done every day and for so long. They are just busywork to keep you logging in all day, much more so than tome grinding. The anata are probably the worst so far, because they really didn't change the formula any.

They have too many characters in the game for us to care about, and we are seeing many of them being put on the back burner completely. Thancred, Yshtola, and Krile have been absent for a lot of the expansion, and we pretty much don't have Ascians as any form of threat any more except for the occasional cutscene the devs make them pop in to say I'm still here.

Feast needs to die. You've had 7 seasons, people just don't like it. 4 of those seasons were in the HW kit, so you can't use it as an excuse and say SB killed the game; it was dead back in HW too.

Next expansion doesn't necessarily needs new jobs. Just more unique gameplay modes for players to enjoy. Oh, and real world content.

I'm going to get so much crap for this.

I absolutely hate FF Logs. What should be a useful and excellent tool to help individuals and groups improve has in many cases been used to belittle people who are newer to raiding, trying to learn, or get a bad group. (Back when I was trying to get into raiding during Alex, I had this issue. A few friends took me to A9S, and belittled my damage on my first clear.)

I never knew I didn't need this until you mentioned it.

It would have been better if PvP was never implemented and all the development time spent on it went towards new PvE content and systems instead.
