I'm pretty much fine with anything but VII.

♥ Baby, tell me, what's your motive? ♥
I just fear that if Omega is really successful thanks to its fanservice, they won't make much effort to create something original.
Frankly, in Stormblood we have the MSQ that brings us to Doma, the 8-man raid that pick ideas from old FF, the 24-man inspired by Ivalice and the incoming set of primals taken from FFXI.
Even the final boss of 4.0 was a callback...with, again, a very lame lore explanation.
I'd really want The Four Elements Fiends and Zeromus from FFIV.
I was hoping for them for Simga.
why are we starting on wanting a 4th? ARR and HW had 3, we all know SE repeats the same thing over and over soooo
I would like to see the classic FF11 bossess in FF14:
Shadow Lord
Ark Angels
Elad'narche
Promathia
Would be hilarious if Shantotto is one of the final boss too.
Are you trying to say this Doma is like any other Doma?I just fear that if Omega is really successful thanks to its fanservice, they won't make much effort to create something original.

the MSQ is for original content, they can do all the fanservice stuff they want with the side content (even the major ones like Savage and 24-man raids). i'm a fan.
and in case you're not aware, Bahamut, Alexander, Crystal Tower, World of Darkness, Diabolos are not original to FFXIV. it didn't start with Omega and Rabanastre.

I'd prefer the elemental lords/Golbez/Zeromus from IV to be the next ones.
I'm going to roll my eyes if its related to VII in any way, that one gets way too much attention for a game with an honestly lacking main villain.
If not from FF IV, then maybe go with IX or X.
It won't be Sephiroth for one simple fact: We already have Sephirot the Fiend. I doubt very much that they'll repeat the name (essentially just has an h at the end!). IF we get a 7 themed Omega level, it will probably feature Jenova or something. Personally, I hope for Ultimecia or Kuja to show up. As far as I know, we only have Yojimbo from 10. Be interesting to have the different summons (minus the ones we have as primals) as potential opponents. Like Valefor or the Magus Sisters.

On a superficial level, it pretty much is, though. That's why you had a long queue of people wanting to see Kefka. Going in depth, the fights are engaging and fun to do. Mechanically speaking. But throwing fanserive just like that won't do, you want SE to respect the player's memories so they will make it look good on every sense.
I think FFXIV is a fanservice title overall and I'm okay with it, as long as it's fun to play.

As for the OP: I'd rather have either VIII or IV. The reasons why it's because Ultimecia's Castle was a raid already, with different bosses until you fight the Sorceress herself. Imagine her ultimate, using Time Compression and seeing all the events from the past, present and future at the same time on the background. That'd be amazing to witness!
IV has so much potential to become the next raid tier. You have all the elements to make it work: Lesser things like the Mist Dragon, The great four elemental fiends, the super bad guy (Golbez) the ultimate bad guy (Zemus/Zeromus). Also the music was great!
Just a tiny bit difference here...all of those are incorporated in XIV's lore. They have a real reason for being there. Omega is litterally "Look, we picked the characters from past FF and didn't make any effort to make them part of XIV".
Someone on this topic mentionned how we could have Hojo being a Garlean scientist. He could have been the one to create the Resonant, and maybe one of those resonant could be called Sephiroth and become mad from the echo's vision. That's how you can make fanservice. But just putting Sephiroth in Omega with no background whatsovever is lazy.
Another thing they could have done better is replace Regula by Kefka, and make him become hungry with power after facing the Warring Triad. It could have given us a special Tower of the Gods 24-man raid where each group would have faced one member of the triad.
Frankly, I felt that the Kefka fight was boring. No real phases, no transition, just hitting him from 100% to 0. It really felt like the dev team was saying "Well, if you want an engaging encouter, go beat savage, we don't have time to make this version engaging". But maybe it's just because it's obvious now that Savage will have a whole new phase, something we didn't know the first time we faced ExDeath. That's why you had a long queue of people wanting to see Kefka. Going in depth, the fights are engaging and fun to do. Mechanically speaking. But throwing fanserive just like that won't do, you want SE to respect the player's memories so they will make it look good on every sense.
