I had oft thought of how to speak these words aloud but, as fate would have it, I was nary so brave enough to try. For you see, when it comes to matters of the heart, my entire visage threatens to crumble. In light of that, I have decided to commit my thoughts to missive instead.

It’s been awhile since we’ve last spoken, but know you are never far from my thoughts. I remember that, not so long ago, you and yours had taken in the remaining Scions. In times that I find myself swayed toward cynicism, I’m reminded of that kindness.

Moreover, your grace was beyond compare.

Together, we came to the precipice of war and were able to stave the tides of adversity, and you sacrificed more than most could imagine. Still, through all of it, you smiled.

That optimism was infectious.

In fact, it crept up on me and left me bereft once it was gone. Of all the memories we shared, there were few that were neither dire nor dismal and, yet, of those few happy moments, I’m so fond. Everyone had always, otherwise, treated me as a wayward companion, a savior, someone to look up to, but never an equal. Save for you.

While our routes may have diverged, with you leading Ishgard into a new era, as the highest elected official in the House of Lords, and I as the realm’s most regarded primal slayer, we are still bound together not only by our deeds, but our beliefs as well. You once said, “Right or wrong, this is who we are, and we deny it at our peril.”

Regardless of what paths we travel, I hope that someday mine will lead me back to you.
