    Odd Controller Lag Issues

    Hello,

I use a Dualshock 4 controller connected to my PC via bluetooth. Ever since the launch of 4.2, there have been moments of what seems like large amounts of input lag. It occurs with a decent amount of frequency, both in the overworld and in fights like Sigmascape V1.0 (Savage) and the Jade Stoa (Extreme). Occurrences can last anywhere from half a second to five seconds in my experience so far, and each time it happens it is jarring, not to mention the issues five seconds of losing control of my character in savage can cause.

What will happen is, my character will move or act as though my controller has been disconnected; if I was moving in a specific direction my character will continue moving in that direction even after I released the analog stick. Likewise with the camera.

I have tried power cycling the computer, reinstalling the controller's drivers, as well as checking updates on each bluetooth driver under the device manager. I've tried using DS4Windows, however that blocks all input to the game from the controller.

Thank you for any help you may be able to provide.

That was happened before 4.2 (and after) for me.

Ended up being that it had nothing to do with the controller (or any wireless adapters at all), but mainly that the code being used for controller support (especially xinput) doesn't always prioritize the controller when there is a lot happening. So having lots of other programs, like a browser with multiple tabs of youtube and an android emulator for a mobile game I also play, combined with having a lot of rendering in FF14 (like in hunts or raids or being in a city, since there are more people/objects) would randomly cause it to just ignore input - which could sometimes mean buttons or new analog movements to cancel out the old movement (and thus cause an apparent "sticky" movement) to happen.

Try closing everything else and extra background programs.

That's really strange. On the task manager, none of my resource usage passes 30% really. I only have Discord open besides XIV itself, and have still run into the issue.

Good morning and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

It may be a good idea to close any other programs that are open when playing (if you have any at all) as suggested by the above poster.

Have you tried using the controller with a USB wire instead of Bluetooth? Have you tried any other controller (if you have anymore) or the mouse and keyboard to see if those have the same issue?

We hope we can be of assistance in helping you enjoy the exciting world of Final Fantasy XIV!

    Hello!

I'd like to report my issue has been solved, it seems. It looks like my pc had connected to a few bluetooth devices around the home without my knowledge. Once I unpaired them, the controller's delayed inputs ceased entirely.

Thank you Squintina and Einmimiria for your responses!
