    AHK to record songs?

Just wondering, I haven't used AHK since like...highschool, but I was playing on my lute earlier and thought it'd be swell if I could record a perfect take of a song with a friend, and we could play a duet together that required really difficult timing to pull off

    But is AHK considered botting?

I dunno what AHK is, but if you're talking about using macro programs to play songs in game and such, there's a lot of videos of it on youtube of people playing XIV music.

AHK is AuthoHotKey, it essentially is a macro for your computer, in which you can record your own keystrokes and play them back. So for example, I could record my keystrokes playing a song, and then play that recording back so that I could play that song on-demand in game without having to actually play it each time. Or you could record a polyphonic type of song (two separate songs meant to be played together at the same time) and play them both at the same time. From what I've been reading, it counts as a bot because its "automating the game" which I think is silly, because its clearly nothing even close to a bot, no more than the vanilla macros are. Oh well.

I'm not sure what Square-Enix's stance on this would be. Especially because you aren't really gaining an in-game advantage with this in any way (aside from looking awesome with your song-playing, of course).

It's the same with people who lack musical capabilities and decide to use AHK to make it play the song for them. I seriously hope no one ever gets banned for this, since it's not even remotely as bad or as toxic as parsing. Not that I'm against parsing, mind you. But it just makes no sense for them to turn a blind eye to one problem and go after an inferior problem.

Objectively, It's a 3rd party tool which is against the ToS. Use it at your own risk!

Yeah, be careful! The software that comes with your graphics card to help tweak your settings is also a third-party tool! You might get banned for making your game look too nice.

Or how about that Razer software that comes with the Razer Naga, that lets you configure the buttons on the side of your mouse? That's a third-party tool too. Better make sure you aren't using THAT! Stick to a standard, 3-button mouse.

Or HEY! What about F.lux? Bet you thought you could use that to decrease your monitor's brightness, huh? Well I've got some baaad news for you, son! It's a third-party tool, and that's AGAINST THE RULES!

So please look forward to uninstalling everything from your computer and make sure FFXIV is the only thing that's running. Yes, that includes your antivirus - it's also third-party.

Not having a go at you here. Just trying to point out that AHK being against the ToS is about as silly as it gets.

Or, you can try and read the ToS yourself.

It would technically be against the terms of service...
I would be surprised if they tried to enforce it in that specific case though...

    And off topic...

I see nothing inherently bad or toxic about parsers, they're just tools.
It's the people who can be the problem.

Yeah, I meant how like parsing inherently enables toxic behavior to takes place. People are the problem, but it indirectly stems from the existence of parses.

But in this case, there's literally no harm that can come from someone using AHK to automate the playing of their songs. Even if someone were to abuse it, other players can just turn off tje perform volume or move somewhere else. lol
