Looking back over the last half dozen content patches, the MSQ additions range from 5 quests to 11 quests - this patch was 8. So its about average for a HW/SB patch.

Well they did make a conscious effort to trim down the amount of quests after the sea of complaints in ARR post-storyline. This is just them continuing the trend with hopefully much more entertaining quests to compensate for the lower amount
There is actually a lot to the story in terms of forward progression if you take the sidequest into account.
Man, even the post 2.0 story had more quests than the entirety of 3.0-3.55.As comparison ARR had about double the amount of total Quests that Heavensward had by the time both were completed.
ARR: 285 MSQ's
HW: 138 MSQ's

In a thread that's literally about the new MSQ, you should probably expect people to be talking about the MSQ.
I mean, he's also right. If you pull this comic book "oh look, not dead!" thing enough times, death itself ceases to carry any emotional weight in the story. They go to this well an awful lot.

Literally everyone knew that none of the Scions were going to die that patch. The only character there that does die I do agree somewhat with you...and one of the people everyone assumed would live no matter what actually DID die (essentially).
