    The Praetorium (omg spoilers)

    So just did MSQ Roulette and got Praetorium.

    SE I have some gripes with you over this place.

    First of all, only the last part of the cut scenes are voice acted. You're tearing my immersion up flip flopping around with sound and no sound. You need to fix this ASAP and finish voice acting the rest of the scenes I gotta watch. And no cutting the audio in the latter scenes isn't acceptable. If I have to watch them, they better all have voice acting, if I wanted to read I'd grab a book.

    2nd gripe, seriously, what were you thinking with the first colossus boss scene walking in? In the cs he clearly walks in behind the group when we first encounter Gaius and yet when the scene ends he's not behind us but in front of us. Was it really too hard to have it make sense and have the guy come into the room via the lift if he's going to be in front of the group? Please redo this scene ASAP and fix this and stop breaking my fun and immersion, thanks.

    3rd gripe having stewed on it for a bit now. Where is the sense of urgency and drama? Specifically with Gaius. We just stand there and let him monologue. We just let him walk to Ultima and board it. He doesn't even try and stop us from following him. With the Nero monologue I mean ok, we let him and Cid have a moment before we started beating on each other, but nothing like that was going on with Gaius later on. We weren't interacting with him, nor was an ally. We just stood there and let him boot up and board his mighty Ultima weapon while he jabbered on.

    Their needs to be some interaction between the warrior of light and Gaius to justify this. Further more adding a fight to get thru the door and to Gaius before he can activate Ultima would make sense and provide a moment of drama. I'm sorry but simply opening the door we just let him walk thru does not provide that.

    You have no proof of that but thanks for playing. Your argument was before the changes were even put in, and assuming that everyone else would think like you. You don't speak for everyone else, and you don't know what the final outcome will be. And there were multiple threads created on the first page, cluttering up the entire General Forum subsection. I guess any expectations bar higher than ankle height for grasping simple concepts, is too much for many on here. Good to know.

    I muted the character voices long ago - primarily to stop hearing myself in battle, but I always found it a little jarring when the game switched between silent and voiced cutscenes. So I’ve never seen those cutscenes with voices on, but assumed they must be fully voice-acted - plenty of other scenes are! Why would they do that?

    The dungeons are pretty badly designed even if you ignore all the other issues. The only solace you can take is that they learned from it for subsequent dungeons.

    They honestly should just revoice all of ARR. There are too many non-voiced cutscenes and the change between voice actors is noticeable for some of the characters.

    Don't even think about replacing ARR Midgarsomr's voice with the one from HW. Nope, nope, nopeeee!

    Should be the other way around for this character.

    There is a legitimate reason why only some cutscenes have full voice acting and some don't. The times there is no voice acting is usually when NPCs are identifying your character by whatever name you chose for them. This is not possible with fully voiced cutscenes so for those times your character is usually referred to by some default boilerplate title ('the adventurer', 'the Champion', 'Bringer of Light', 'the Warrior of Light' etc) and thus the scene loses the personalized effect when it has voice acting.

    This is why in games such as Mass Effect or The Old Republic the player character has more of a backstory including either being given a default name and ignores the player's chosen name in cutscenes, or only allowing you to choose a partial personalized name with the other half (like a family name) a default name that you cannot change (like Commander Shepherd in Mass Effect, you can change Shep's first name but they will always be identified as 'Shepherd' in cutscenes.).

    For FFXIV however, SE however went back to their roots and allowed the player to choose both their names completely by having the player character virtually a blank slate, just like the original FF game (which also had a party of generic no-name characters only identified by their Job class). Thus, this limits voice acting to key scenes, and accordingly your character is only identified by default titles in those scenes. It's a design choice.
