so what are the best builds, assuming two things. one, max surv needed is 120 (like airships) and then either range to hit up more places, speed to do places faster (no retri), or high retri for assumed farming of the massive amount of kamacite ore (that will probably come from sub nodes)?

note: need 3 ore per plate and 9 plates per part (or 108 ore for one sub and 432 ore for all four subs)

also note: I think its dumb as hell to add a new building materia that could take months for you to build your subs when there are only months left before 5.0, when subs will become trash, much like airships did when 4.0 dropped :/

I'm also interested in sub builds. Has anyone been able to find the rare item with 110 surveillance or is the new minimum 120?

I'm looking for a budget Sub! The time it takes to reach my destination isn't so much of an issue. I mostly want to discover new areas and bring back goodies. SO I would assume I would build for surveillance and retrieval? Then what about Distance? Right now I have a Shark I keep sending out to discover the derelict to with no luck.

I'd check out the calculator that Quadoline posted. You can narrow it down by removing parts and shifting the scrollbars to the minimum you want of certain stats and then browse what you get with various builds that fit those minimums. CUWC would give you a good chunk of surveillance while middle roading the rest of the stats.

RNG can be a real pain in the butt with discovering things.

That said, on the first trip of our three subs with 110 surv, one of them discovered Deep Sea Site 6. The last sub has 135 surv and discovered Flickering Dip on its first trip.
