As far as I can tell the scoring system works like this:

5 hinted slots every week - 2-8 points each

4 unhinted slots - 7 points each

5 slots can be dyed for 1-3 points, seems to be 1 point for any dye, 2 points for a dye that is close, and 3 points for the exact dye

Weapon dye is 3 points if correct, otherwise 0

I believe the overall theme (A Brave New World) determines which dyes you need, and the hints on each slot determine what gear is needed, but this is just a guess

To find out what gives 100 each week we need to find the gear that gives 8 points undyed, find the right family of dye for each piece, then find the exact right dye. To find the weapon dye, just try all 105 until one gives 3 points. I've been using replica allagan weapons and the race gear to test dyes, or there is a level 1 weapon at wolves' den.

The only thing that works so far is Halcyon Rod Lucis, the only dyeable fishing rod. Until/if a substitute gold rating hat is found, this is it to get 100.

All weapons give 7 points but halcyon rod lucis is the only dyable fishing rod so I used that. It has to be fisher because of the hat.

Same for hands and shoes, anything will give 7 points as long as it is dyable. The other three jewelry slots can also be anything, just don't leave them empty.

I've seen that 'accent' line pop up even in gearsets that use otherwise normal gear in the non-hinted slots that isn't glamoured invisible. It might just be a generic piece of advice he gives.

That said, items in those slots do count for something of course, there's a difference between glamoured invisible and unequipped. You get the basic amount of points for wearing gear in those slots even if they're invisible, if you take them off completely they contribute zero credit which will drop your score down to 40+ even if you have 5 golds in the hinted slots.

Ramie Ribbon gives 4 stars if you can't get your hands on a moogle necklace.

I think I get this now. You have Emperor's New stuff in some of your extra slots. So do I. I think he's telling us to put on actual gear instead of those placeholders. I'm going to see if that improves my score next week.

Pretty sure it's just a generic line; I got it too and didn't use any of the Emperor's New items.

Hopefully this helps slightly in the alternatives department, the Gagnaskin Chaps are available from the vendor in Rhalgr's Reach even if you don't have a crafter.
