Unable to Run After Patch 4.2 / Unable to install game

Initially, upon trying to patch, I received the following error:



I attempted running normally and running as Administrator.

After receiving this multiple times, I decided to uninstall and reinstall the game. It uninstalled just fine, but when I went to reinstall using the link located here: https://www.finalfantasyxiv.com/playersdownload/na/

... it would download the webinstaller executable (ffxivsetup.exe) which I attempted in both running as administrator and a standard user. It ran and I had my task manager open to ensure that the process completed prior to running the ffxivboot.exe located in the SquareEnix/FFIXV-ARR/boot directory (as both admin and standard user) and it kept getting hung up here:



After this happened a few times from uninstalling, deleting all files remaining in the SquareEnix Directory as well as the My Documents/mygames/FFXIV-ARR directory and rebotting in-between uninstallation and re-installation attempts, I started doing some research and found some solutions that had worked for people in the past.

I changed my ISPs default DNS settings initially to google's 8.8.4.4 and 4.4.4.4, then when that didn't work I tried the Level 3 DNS of 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.4 as seen here:



I also ensured that my windows firewall was disabled:



...and that my router firewall is disabled:



I uninstalled, removed all files, rebooted and tried disabling IPv6 on my network connection and went through the above steps again to no avail.

My girlfriend also has the game installed, so I run the patch update on her machine, but upon completion when attempting to run the game she gets the error:

"Could not locate data files. Please reinstall FINAL FANTASY XIV.(100000)"
EXCEPT that I checked her SquareEnix/FFXIV-ARR/game directory and all of the files are there!!!

I copied her game files from her machine over to mine via network share and received the same error.

I am directly connected to my ISP's 2in1 Modem/Router via Cat 5e, and have been playing steadily for the past few weeks without issue.

Completely at a loss, I call technical support who also was completely at a loss. I ask if there is a link for a full client download, and am told that the only client with a full download link is the trial version and barring that I should post in this forum.

I attempt the trial version hoping that it will work except that I get just as far:


So here I am, desperately wanting to play this game, and yet I can't seem to.

Do you and your girlfriend use the same internet connection? Did you try to reinstall on her PC as well?

You seem to have tried a lot of things we would suggest for this situation. Have you tried downloading the patch from another location with a different connection? This will indicate if it is your connection or your PC.

Hi, i'm apparently having a similar issue. I was fine playing FFXIV just until the patch today, I ran into the same frustration and also uninstalled, and annoyingly found that it didn't help.

DNS changing and firewall issues aside, network issues like this shouldn't crop up when you've been able to patch and play before without issues. Also i'd warn against disabling both your windows and router firewall, it puts you at risk by exposing yourself like that.

I don't have any software running that could potentially impact the patcher that I can think of, maybe the current patch has an incompatibility problem with some configurations? I'm also on Win 7 Pro x64 and running FFXIV at dx11.

As both our PCs are dekstops I have not been able to connect to a different internet source. We use X-finity and have their gigabit service. The service has been reliable so far and I have downloaded 5 gigabytes video files without corruption or issue. I did not attempt the reinstall on her PC yet as I wanted one copy of intact files (even though it says "Cannot locate data files") -

I downloaded the client installer from the link mentioned above more than 5 times and achieved the same error message hanging up at the exact same stage in the progress bar. Is it possible the client installer ffxivsetup.exe has an issue with the new patch or that there's some other issue? Have there been any server issues? Is it possible to send a disk with the full client? You'll see I have access to all expansions collector's editions.

Are there any log files I can examine and provide? Regarding her PC and the "Cannot locate data files" error, is there some cfg file or other file that points the launcher to the directory for the game files?

Really I would like a log file to examine where exactly the program / installs are failing. Don't know if that exists though.

UPDATE: This seemed to work! I finally got past that second progress bar!

I had to modify the FFXIV_BOOT.cfg and change "StartupCompleted" from 0 to 1 because even tho I told the program I already had a squareenix account that is active and subscribed, its response was the following:



It really seems like the QA team could do some better testing on different platforms and have the dev team do some polishing up of their code.

This whole system needs to be streamlined much better.

I am currently here and heading of to school / work (wish me luck and hopefully everything goes well):


P.S. - Can't believe I went through all of those other troubleshooting steps when compatibility mode (something SE specifically says to DISABLE) and a Read-Only attribute on the mygames directory were the issue. Come on guys x'D - I love you Square but you can do better than this.
