    Pronunciation of "Roegadyn" in MSQ

In the quest Tidings from the East, Hancock mentions "a grizzled Roegadyn samurai" and pronounces the first vowel in "Roegadyn" like /oʊ/ in "roe" (fish eggs) instead of something in the neighborhood of /u/ ("room") or /ʊ/ ("rook").

I know it's a bit late to fix voice over stuff, and voice actors are expensive, but just wanted to point it out for the sake of future cutscenes.

Are you sure you are the one pronouncing it correctly?

Very sure. "Roe" is supposed to be pronounced "rue".

Loef (leaf) would be 'loof' (rhymes with 'goof')

Did you take into consideration it's his personal pronunciation. That being said while Rue is correct along with Din, as those line up with the Japanese kana, English speakers want to pronounce it Ro and Dine, because of English laguage "rules". This may not apply in game but it's the main reason for it out of game.

Personal pronunciations come with purpose and character, though. The speaker in this case is a businessman who oversees the eastern goings-on of a wealthy trading body, and his speech doesn't strike me as speech that would suffer such a mispronunciation. As for out of game rationale, this is a cutscene in the game. That out of game reason should be out the window.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "Personal pronunciations come with purpose and character", as personal pronunciation is exactly that, something specific to an individual. That's why accents and regional dialects exists. We all have one but if one is similar enough to our own we don't notice until a word or saying deviates from what is "natural" to our ears. That's why British and Australian English sound different.

For instance the words Mary, Merry, Marry, some people pronounce them all differently, others all the same. I have a friend who says Ferry and Fairy the same, and for me I pronounce OO as a U so Room and Broom sound like Rum and Brum. Not to mention the common Three to Tree, silent or non-silent H's, is it History or Istory? (both are correct); I say Four like Foar (NYC accent), and some people replace a silent letter with a voiced letter, the most common being T(TH) to D, like They-Dey, The-De, Them-Dem.

As for the out of game rationale, I just wanted to make it known, so to speak. Plus if the VA wasn't given any indication about the pronunciation then he would go off of his inference on how to say it over the "correct" way. Though I doubt they wouldn't have so sort of guidance, but anything is possible. It's the reason why we have Baha-moot in FFXII and Bahamut in FFXIII, XIV, XV...lol

    Mary, Merry, Marry
50% of people in the US pronounce these the same.

~15% (including myself) pronounce them like below, mostly northeasterners though:

Mary rhymes with fairy, dairy, vary, scary
Merry rhymes with ferry, berry, perry, cherry
Marry rhymes with parry, Gary, Larry.

I must be that 50% cuz Gary eating a cherry, is quite scary. Sounds like it rhymes. Unlike Row vs Roo

And I am in the North East. So Gary eating a cherry, is quite scary, becomes more of an off-rhyme for me... maybe.

I always pronounced it like "Rurgadyn" as several German surnames with the the OE are pronounced an "ur"-ish type of thing.
