    Garden - Maintenance Reminder

As per the maintenance announcement, we're going to be receiving at least 24 hours of downtime barring any issues that extend it. If you're growing anything that requires tending, you may want to make use of our new storage feature and simply put your flower pots/gardens into storage until after maintenance. The gardens/pots will retain the plants and current progression, but pause further progression while in storage. After maintenance, just place the garden/pots back, tend them and you're good to go.

... I .. did not know you could "pause" plants like this. Thank you very much for the tip.

Not to derail the thread to much but I have a question. I just recently became a home owner. What are some plants do you recommend I grow to try to make a decent profit from?

I cycle through several so as to not flood the market, but my four most profitable (will vary by server, of course) are Thavnarian Onions, Cloudsbreath, Blood Peppers, and Jute. All of them take a lot of crossbreeding to achieve though, so that is a lot of time growing or gathering seeds and hitting the timed nodes for soil (unless you just wanna throw gil at the MB for that stuff.) A simpler alternative since you are just getting started might be the chocobo coloring fruits; you can buy the seeds for allied seals and they grow pretty fast (two days I think.) They won't make you near as much as crossbreeding but, on my server at least, they sell pretty steadily and it might be a good way to dip your toes into gardening.

Also, I highly recommend spending your poetics on unidentified ore- you can trade those in at Idyllshire for grade 3 Thanalan topsoil which is used in crossbreeding and tends to be more expensive on the MB than grade 3 Shroud topsoil (used to increase garden yield, but only works on some plants so it is less sought after.)

    Edit:
Also, this site is your new best friend: http://www.ffxivgardening.com/index.php

Cloudsbreath is probably the easiest one to do but also crashed hard on the market. The Cloudsbreath themself are only around 100k each and flying chair (which they are used for) are down to 1M each.

They take aprx 10 RL days to grow included crossbreeding.

I second what Rymm said. Cloudsbreath is a big seller right now, its well past its peak but I don't think its reached a low point yet. Jute is a slow and steady kind of mat; not many people grow it anymore so it maintains its value and its fairly stable. Lots of level 50 stuff is still popular for glams, furniture and minions so there's a good market for it. Bloodpeppers seem to be in almost every end game minion since 3.4 so they always sell well and Thavnairian onions are an open ended market with constant demand.

You'll get glazenuts from making thav onion seeds and bloodpepper seeds. They're currently selling low but they tend to spike high during patches with new furiture and housing.

While Bloodpepper and thav onions do have crossbreeds I don't have much use for them personally so i tend to crossbreed in the garden and grow those with the indoor flower pots.

Another thing to note is Jute + Mandrake is a perpetual Jute cycle. Once you get about 8 Jute seeds for a buffer start intercrossing them with mandrake. Each intercross also yields jute seeds and I typically get 3-5 seeds per harvest. As long as you have a small buffer you can effectively replant jute endlessly.

I did this for a while. You can also trade out the mandrake for sylkis bud or tantalplant to get thav onion cross. It's an easy way to switch back and forth between jute and thav onions. It's also nice in the fact that you just replant jute whenever you harvest it, then switch between mandrake or one of the others. Constantly producing something is always a good thing.
