While I can't speak to their popularity, this kind of hairstyle is definitely a thing. Google "hime cut hairstyle" images to find plenty of real-life examples. It's meant to be evocative of royalty, nobility, or the upper class ("hime" meaning "princess").
I would have liked the long one better if it had hair in the backBut at least it clips less. I'll wear it for a while with some fancier outfits. The short one is useless to me, we need more long cuts!
I like the hime cut, but at least on my character the side bangs are cut too far back. Its fine at some angles but as soon as I'm standing anywhere with wind it becomes very hard to ignore the fact that my horns are floating on top of my hair as the side bangs are clipping through the base. At least when the hair is still it doesn't drawn attention to the clipping as much. I was hopping to use this cut long term as I'm getting tired of my normal two cuts I use but I'll probably only use it for a week or so until I can not longer stand the clipping. I really like the Au Ra exclusive version of a hime cut, but don't like the horns that come with it. Ah well.

I like the long one, and I don't even mind the fact that the hair comes down the front from behind, but unfortunately the front parts don't just clip with my highlander's armor, they clip with her body itself in some circumstances. I can't use it because I'd have to use a fantasia and drop a slider or two. It's really unfortunate because I like it, but not 10 bucks and an appearance change worth of like.
The short one is just another short one. We have tons of short hair and they're mostly starting to blend together, save for a few of the real creative ones. This is not one of those though, unfortunately.
I love the short cut now that I have it on. I looks great on Lalafells
I absolutely love the short one. It looks pretty on my char![]()
I hate both of them, sadly, the bangs just look awful on my character. I was so excited for another long style, but it looks like I'll be back and forth between my three usual styles for yet another patch...
I like the front view of the longer one but the "missing" hair in the back looks just horrible for me... the long front hair parts also sticks too much to body (which looks horrible strechted).
It was the same thing for me with the hair before this one (with "hair balls" on it... too bad females cannot have it without the balls)...
There is always "one" little thing that make dislike the new "longer" hairstyles.
The ohter one is just another generic short style what is a no go for me.
I like them but either seems to only fit certain races and/or colorings. as an Elezen, my character's head looked smaller with either styles. I really want to try longer hairstyles but the clipping is too distracting with most of my character's wardrobe. however, they seem to flow well with the Japanese-inspired glamours.
The second picture is pretty much a longer variation of the hairstyle I currently use. I think short, mid, and long versions of all the hairstyles would be welcome, and also give our characters a sense of passing time. Here's some ideas square enix
Back then it seemed like their minds were open to just creating art...and it looked great
Either Yuna's X or X2 hair would be great
I also want them to understand that there's a lot of amazing hair styles in FFXIV. That's very important to point out but the since the start of stormblood it feels like there hasn't been any amazing ones..I know it's opinion but sometimes you can tell that most/all of the stormblood hairstyles haven't been that great. I'm just really hoping the next set have more character to them.
I would also love to have Yuna's hairstyle. It fits my character perfectly!
