I don't mean to offend but...didn't you read? It was stated that you wouldn't be able to get them back out.
Not that I agree with that design choice, it's a stupid design choice, but you could have avoided this until they changed it.

No I had stayed up all night long and ...well, got no sleep. It's totally my own damn fault but I also have like 4 retainers full of stuff that isn't even crafting mats, it got so bad that I had 5 inventory slots open. I couldn't lvl my crafts to 70 because I like to RP and so I hold onto EVERY LITTLE THING. And I held onto everything even more when I thought I had 200 of each item slot coming to me soon, lol. It's an ok system but I wish I had figured it out first. I mostly made this post so other people who are in my boat if trying to minmax their inventory can just leave their damn shields in the armory chest LMAO
And even if I didn't RP I have a personal mansion in which I've almost filled the damn storage. I just have inventory issues in general all around but if my mistake can help one person who was either tired/lazy like me and didn't read the whole thing, I'm happy.
...On another note, is the Garo gear still around? Can I re-buy my invisible shield??
I'm afraid I'm not seeing a use for the "commode" yet. While I can probably find some items that are low value/easilly replaceable to put in it, I would always mix those items with things I don't want to lose, so I don't see me ever being able to create a plate of my liking with those limited items. Think I'll stick with the old system for now, and see if things improve. I'm not a big glamour hound, however, so I'm not that fussed by it.
This new glamour system is based on the one used by Neverwinter and likely other MMORPGs out there, where 'clothes' are separate from 'gear'. What you're going to want to put in there is clothing with no class restrictions or low level gear with blanket class restrictions (still need to experiment here so use with caution). So like quest reward items like the Scholasticate coat and Hildibrand outfit. I'd put in a set of the Emperor's items and MAYBE some of the older lvl 50 blanket role sets (again, this is untested).
Right now I'm using a glamour plate that has the Emperor's bracelet and rings so I don't have to make them invisible ever again. They're already set. For all my classes.

I placed all my WHM and RDM weapons inside the dresser, not complaining
I put some of the gear from one of the 2.x raids in it because I wasn't going to use it otherwise, and that's when I discovered that it replaces the glamour on the gear entirely. If I had any other glamours that I had disposed of the original gear for, I'd have been rather annoyed when I inevitably accidentally use it on the wrong thing.I'm afraid I'm not seeing a use for the "commode" yet. That said, I think this setup is exactly what is asked for, however it's implementation is a little rough.
a) They should have put the glamour plate against the class (eg when the weapon is equipped), thereby when the weapon is switched out, the glamour switches with it. It probably wasn't done that way since it would require a inventory lookup every time someone changes gear and that would seriously lag everyone who witnesses it. That's why glamours are bound to the gear, because that's something that doesn't change the current data requirements.
b) Having to go back to the inn to change the gear glamour is a bit of an annoyance. Pick up grand new gear? Want to go back to the previous glamour? Trip pack to the inn for ya.
That said, this version of the glamour dresser is far easier to deal with, but it probably should have been 200 items per slot. As the item is effectively "destroyed" from your inventory, there also needs to be a warning when a rare item (Eg something dropped from raids/extreme trials) is placed in it that it can not be retrieved again, likewise for any gear that has materia on it. For most gear that is out-leveled this probably isn't a concern (eg all level 50 and 60 gear) since you're never going to use it for the attributes again.
What are your reasons for being heartbroken? The shield is still there for you in every way that actually matters. You don't want it for its stats, because its stats are terrible, now. If you want it as a trophy for your success, that's still there - the only way you could have the glamour, is if you'd earned it in the first place. If you want it for its appearance, well, that's exactly what the dresser is for.
Just think of the glamour chest as another form of inventory - just one where you can't move it to another inventory. All this nonsense about stuff in the dresser being "destroyed" is silly and over-dramatic.
