Might do that, thanks for the info.Yeah, this is not working the way I was hoping. As the OP said, don't overwrite our existing glamours. Let the Glamour Plate be an overlay that has a higher priority than normal glamours.
With this system, I think we need at least 20 plates and the ability to change plates outside of city-states.
All of this could have been much easier and better if FFXIV used the glamour system of Xenoblade X (or the Fashion Gear as they call it in that game). Each playable character has an extra set of equipment slots that overrides the appearance of the normal equipment slots. Have that as a base and expand from that.
You can make a macro that changes your gear set and glamour plate at the same time.
/gearset change X Y
X = the number on the gear set you want to change into
Y = the glamour plate you want to use
You can also add
/macroicon "X" gearset
so the macro icon is the job/class icon.
I am not sure why you are shocked that was the exact design of the system as described.
I suspected this might be the case from the start, actually. It's been described as "applying an entire set of glamours at once" so - as much as I was hoping it wasn't the case - I'm not surprised that it does actually apply them as permanent glamours.
They've said they intend to have it connected to gear sets eventually, so I guess that means at a system level it will just overwrite those glamours every time you change sets.
Hopefully when that system comes in properly, they'll also expand the number of plates to match the number of gear sets available.
The inefficiency and balls up of this entire system is like they bought back the 1.0 devs for some ideas.
"How can we make this in the worst way possible?"
Being Japanese I'll say this... look up japanese firearms in WW2. They were often overly complex and worse than much simpler western firearms. The japanese have a tendency to over complicate simple things. I had this issue growing up in america but I adapted and learn to edit my ideas a lot.
The current outfit system is trash. It is overly complicated, lacks intuitiveness, and just doesn't do what the players want.
It reminds me of the firearms in WW2.
Having visited Japan recently, this was something that really surprised me. At the end of the trip there were a lot of "aha" moments when looking over some of SE's decisions in this game because the culture of doing things is just so different.
I'll give you my example, the Eorzea Cafe. You had to buy the tickets online, in Japanese only, which are emailed to you. You cannot use this email for anything else. When you get to Japan, you have to go find a certain shop to print paper tickets. You can't print tickets at home, only from this one shop. You can only print these tickets once at the shop so if you lose them, they're gone, even though you still have the email confirmation. When you get to the cafe, you give them your paper tickets and they check you against a paper list and they give you more paper to order your free drinks. They then give you and iPad (???) menu to order the rest of your food. The iPad doesn't have English options, so you get given a paper English menu to use to order on your Japanese only iPad.
This experience wasn't limited to the Eorzea Cafe, just to be clear, it was literally everything we had to book in advance.
I'm very very lucky my partner is fluent in Japanese because it was a weirdly convoluted run around, much more convoluted than simple digital ticketing or ordering should have been.
In regards to this Glamour fiasco, what was a incredibly simplistic idea has been twisted into an awful chain of burning hoops designed for us to jump through and there is just seemingly no reason it, no matter how much everyone bleats about server limitations and such.
It's not just the Japanese that do this. My relatives do this as well. It's called making an easy job hard. It's gotten to the point were I don't want to work with them at all anymore.Being Japanese I'll say this... look up japanese firearms in WW2. They were often overly complex and worse than much simpler western firearms. The japanese have a tendency to over complicate simple things. Well, you can still do so traditionally right? I mean, at best the system is a lot less useful, but thankfully it isn't the only way to glamour now.
That is a shame, I had Hoped it worked like A=B where A is original and B is the glamour Plate, upon removing B it would become A again but instead it does A is replaced by B which definitely hurts the situation since yes now it does interact in a negative way with the original glamour.
Haven't messed with it yet, but I'm not surprised
