It sounded like a good idea to overlay a look on your current gear. I mean Lord of the Rings Online had that same cosmetic system and I've been asking for something like that here for a while now so you can have different looks for different jobs. I mean that sounds fantastic and all. Just select between multiple different looks, and turn it off whenever you want!
Except glamour plates don't overlay a look on your current gear. They totally replace your current glamour (as in hard overwrites it on the actual gear itself). That means that you cannot turn off a look. So what does this mean exactly?
Well, say you have Paladin, Dark Knight, and Warrior leveled to 70 and want looks for all 3. Your main is Dark Knight, so you had Dark Knight AF glamoured on your gear already. But with the new glamour plate system, that means you can do 2 different looks now for Paladin and Warrior! So Paladin you do this fancy getup with Hellfire and Dreadwyrm armor. Warrior you decide you want to go AF too... because why not? Boy that looks neat. You're going to switch to Paladin for a dungeon and apply this new glamour plate because that's awesome!
You get out of said dungeon, decide you want to try out Warrior! All is good and you look totally fabulous. Then you decide to switch back to Dark Knight... and uh oh! You're still in the base ugly genji armor you glamoured over to begin with because you just had on Warrior AF! No big deal, surely there's a way to turn off the glamour plate to revert to your original Dark Knight look you had, because I mean duh that would be stupid to not be able to. NOPE! The glamour plate overrides your current glamour on your gear permanently until you apply new glamour or use up ANOTHER glamour plate for your original Dark Knight look again!
So why is this stupid? Well, we only have 10 glamour plates to work with. Instead of needing 2 for each role to have different looks with (tanks, healers, magic dps, etc), you need 3! Because instead of just a temporary overlay, the plates actually totally overwrite your glamour. Oops!
10 plates before was already a bit sketchy and worrisome because people thought it wouldn't be enough. I figured ok I would have a couple for random town clothes and a few for alt job looks, 10 wouldn't be that bad. Now that I know how the glamour plates ACTUALLY work (just overwrites pre-existing glamour and not temporarily overlays), I not only don't have enough for random town clothes (reason for doing it on glamour plate was to apply over any job... which now if I do totally screws my glamour for that job because I don't have ANOTHER glamour plate with the original glamour to switch back to!), but I don't even have enough for alt jobs of different roles now. For example casters I play Red Mage and Black Mage. Instead of only needing 1 glamour plate for Black Mage, I now need 2. This is a big deal because you'll waste half of your glamour plates just restoring your default look instead of being able to have 10 totally different looks for different jobs/crafters.
So... that said!
Please rework glamour plates to just temporarily overlay a look and not actually overwrite the glamour on our gear...
or give us like 30 more
Because that's just poor implementation and now 10 REALLY ISN'T enough knowing that the plates actually totally overwrite your glamour on the gear itself (and not just temporarily apply the look). It's a step in the right direction I guess, but honestly I think that's a really bad design decision.
