Devs do not listen to these people.
You are the artists, you make the scripts, you want a certain feeling and story to go the way you want.
These people that complain about instance fights don't understand that it is more important for the script and story to keep its purity than it is to sacrifice that so things work perfectly day 1.

Story and feeling in FFXIV is one, or probably the most important thing. If you change that and lower the quality of that you're listening to the wrong things.

I don't think the discussion is that they should be removed, moreso that they should be handled differently so we don't have more incidents like what was experienced in the beginning of Stormblood with Raubahn. Read more than the title. ;P

Speaking personally, interrupting a storyline with a click-fest at an instance NPC lowers the quality significantly in and of itself. FFXIV's level of immersion is fairly poor to begin with, but what little it manages to scrape together arises from the storyline. Being rudely snapped out of the storyline flow by an error message shreds it.

Also, seriously, there's very little 'purity' to the script and story here. I'm not saying the storyline's bad - it isn't - but it already tolerates significant restrictions placed upon it by various outside forces. One example is simply the update cycle itself; it immediately imposes a restriction on pacing, forcing the storyline to be strung together from chunks of content that are satisfying in and of themselves, without requiring the next piece. It's normal. Good TV shows do the same thing; they'll write around the schedule of the actors and the actresses, for example. Any halfway-decent writing team for this type of content sketches out the broad strokes of the story, but leaves themselves plenty of wiggle room to accommodate unforeseen issues. Instance congestion certainly falls into that category, in my estimation.

This is only the second time something like that happened and it didn't even last a day. I rather not be able to complete a fight for a few hours than lose the experience of that because people are stuck for a few hours. But that's my point, you can disagree, I want them to also hear my feeedback on it.

You can feel that way personally

Personally I feel instance fights define FFXIV's story a lot, those moments are the ones I remember the most in the story. I still clearly remember fighting Raubhan in Heavensward and fighting Zenos at Yanxia.

Without those instance fights you lose a lot of the purity.

    How about a ingame lottery.
Everyone pull a lottery and get a number between 1 and 7. The number decide on which day of the week it get unlocked for your character.

I suggested adding a queue system for solo duties, similar to the queue system for party duties. It would at least allow you to not have to click spam-fest it. It means you can get up to it, queue for it, continue it when your queue pops. I feel it would smooth things out and allow things to progress better.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

This was nothing like Raubahn. By the time I logged in and did it there were no issues. I didn't get past Raubahn for 3 days

I had to try a few times on Cid, but really yeah... queue system for solo instances. It both solves the problem and satisfies SE's compulsive need not to correct underlying issues with the game's design. It's perfect.

Because people were able to still do other stuff in SB on this patch while you were kinda locked out from any new content at the expansion launch thus people tried to get through that. Also I kinda believe that the amount of people logging in on a patch is probably way less than on an expansion release. Still bad that this problem existed at all for a normal patch..I can already see the horrible log in queues when housing is released next week.

I really hope that they learn from this and that we wont have a repeat with 5.0..
