I still play FFXI and have been hit by a mob as it died cause the killing blow came in after the attack, despite what the animations would tell you.

we are not taking about that, we are talking about the fact in ffxiv is slow, so slow that you can keep using CDs on dead monsters.
For FFxi, as you said it technically hit you before the killing blow, before you got to see the animation, that is different and more common when you factor in double attack and triple attack cuz it tries to process grapically those hits. In ffxiv though the monsters actually do actions with it dead already though, same is how you can keep damaging them.
So anyone able answer why FFXIV was built being so slow? and the idea is "server tics"?
