In fairness: The same goes and always went for house flippers.

There is no rule that states you may not sell houses to other people for gil. So long as you deliver the plot when the agreed sum is paid, there is no real fraud going on either, though some GMs named it such. There is no rule stating you may not hoard houses for resale either. House flippers were playing by the rules and went unpunished for a long time.

Do you know how they ended up punishing them? By interpreting the paragraph on "Disruption" very broadly, which states that you may not interfere with the gameplay experience of other players. This is such a broad term that you can apply it to any and every possible interaction between players, from early pulling over undercutting to house hoarding.

However, their gil wasn't taken away either - They got account warnings and bans instead.

Lets see - according to the latest census there are about 15k people on Odin, our server. Or at least 15k characters, since there are probably some alts mixed in.
I'm not 100% sure on the numbers anymore but there arent enough houses for everyone on the server - even if we assume that half of the characters are alts and only about 7k are actually players. Specially not if we throw FCs in the mix, competing for houses aswell.
Even without people owning multiple houses, there wouldnt be enough for everyone and people would get left out.

SE created the illusion of everyone being able to have a house by lowering the prices while the amount of gil in the game and in the pockets of the indivudal increased.
When my old FC first bought a medium house me and the FC-leader spend about 3 months crafting and selling gear to get the needed amount for it - we had free pick between several wards, all plots... because back then 18 million gil was an aweful lot of money - today its something I can earn in two days, if I'd really want to. I know people who've never really crafted in this game, but they've got enough money to buy a small house - in theory.
The problem with that theory is: Its a theory, because it was never intended for everyone to own a house, yet thanks to inflation and lowered prices it looks like it, so people feel they should be able to get a house because they have the money for it. And I dont blame them for being upset when tehy realise that thats nothing but an illusion. And I dont blame them for SE giving them that illusion.

Seriously: Even if people didnt screw each other over, not everyone would have a house, because the system wasnt meant for it. Yet it seems as if it was - and thats on SE, sorry. And its up to SE to fix that. This isnt the evil, evil house-flippers ruining the game for everyone - the housing shortage would exists even without them. I agree that it would be nice if we could all be nice to each other... but even if we would be about 75% of all characters on our world, Odin, would be left without a home. Probably more, because thats not taking into account FCs houses.

Actually it states in the patch description that, while a relinquished plot is unavailable for purchase straight away, that doesn't include Relocating, you may relocate to any plot without limitation.

    * During this period, said plots will still be available for relocation.
So you could still sell to someone who already has a plot.

Reward paying customers for behavior, or punish paying customers for the same behavior, with the same ends. Which one is a better business model?

Also realize that, unlike with literally any other content in the game, there are areas of the game completely walled off because of the limitations of housing.

If I really wanted to, I could defeat Ultimate fights. I could put in the time and work.

But I can't cross-breed plants in gardens? I can't build and airship or sub? I can't even decorate more than one room?

That isn't, "I pay a sub so I'm entitled to this content as much as everyone else," and instead, "Wow, I literally have no way to access this content because of SE's design and players who have come before. That sucks."

Strange that you say that, as I have been able to get a house on 7 different servers since spring of 2016. Even on Balmung.

Hmm....personally, while I dislike the idea of folks like that couple on Mateus who pretty much will be able to maintain their own housing ward on Mateus with no punishment, what's done is done. They hadn't broken any rules and unfortunately, they took advantage of a situation that didn't become a huge problem until players started flocking to that server. I do feel that they are jerks for not seeing anything wrong at this point, but at this point, this was probably the best decision that could be done at this moment. At the end of the day, it's still a business.

Well, good for you, since that means you are both lucky, was able to watch for open houses, and acting as part of the exact problem of a single player owning several houses.

I still err on the side of SE making a new system (like those legendary instanced homes) or expanding apartments to fill the gaps of content being gated by limited housing. I feel letting us add more vendor NPCs is only the tiniest start.

:/ I would only have one house if I could use it on all of my characters in the first place, and I'm sorry I should not be punished for SEs short comings. When I got my two houses there were tons of open plots. No one wanted them.

Now suddenly its a problem, I don't think that is fair at all. I didn't do anything wrong.

SE needs to do something, the burden of fixing the system so everyone can have a house is theirs, and I should not suffer because of it.

And there are some people with more houses than me that also, have not used the system just to flip houses. My homes are my person spaces in the games, and I have seen many others that treat it the same. We should not be treated like criminals for doing nothing wrong.
