SAM is fine. Not everything needs to be meta. It clears fights. You're not gunning for world first. 20sec off your weekly farm won't change much.

An useless job is not fine... You can say "He can clear anything" all you want, seems to be the new players' song, but God, let others people that want to do party strat says Sam is useless, because he is.
He's not a good personnal dps anymore, he doesn't do something for the team. So no, Sam is not in a good place.

I actually half agree with you.
A big part of the problem with these "balance" issues is actually community driven. For some reason, casual to midcore players seem to want to toss meta / world first preferences into their casual/midcore runs.
However that being said, in its current state MNK is "stronger" than SAM, and brings more to the table. The argument is why bring a SAM when you can just take a MNK?
I think it's a valid point, because currently MNK is just flat out better in every way..
I think SE will need to seriously re-think how they balance classes for PVE in future, a pure dps class works about as well as a pure support class in this game i.e. not at all. Selfish DPS will always loose out to DPS with raid wide buffs from a META stand point. While most players do not experience the bleeding edge progression elements of this game those elements will always be reflected in preferences of party leaders at lower tiers of progression. Given the positive changes to BLM mobility in recent patches I have faith that SE will take note of these challenges ad make meaningful changes, however given the changes to WAR recently I believe these changes may not go in the way many in this thread hope.

It's not about meta IMO, they just don't have anything to offer the group. If you're going to run 2 melee 2 ranged there is no spot for Sam. Drg and Nin are clearly better if you can have one or both. Mnk is only a bit better, but with equal or higher dps than Sam, depending on the player, it's still a pretty easy choice.
At the end of the day, SE should know their playerbase by now. Jobs with no group utility get left out. It doesn't really matter how high their personal DPS is - every raid group needs, or at minimum desires, utility in one form or another.

Lol no dupes, no Sam but double drg ok. Takes longer to find a pf group.
Unnecessary for Byakko honestly. But I set up my PF similar and try to adjust as people join. I'll leave the first melee for all and cut sam out of the 2nd one, cuz the only thing worse the 1 Sam is a 2nd
(in this example I'd change the last melee to mnk, nin, sam.. assuming I remember and change it before a dupe job joins)

It seems everytime I do savage runs or even regular Sigmascape it's always a SAM or RED within the DPS. So either my server never got the memo or we seriously do not care about running it with the "best" Job

Not all people care about strat. In fact, there is no so many people who knows LB charge is slower when you have two time the same job.
Also, a lot of people are playing SAM (like NIN) just because it's japanese. Don't forget that.
I would like the SAM getting some new stuff and utilities, but SE really NEEDS to nerf DRG and NIN. They are meta since what? ARR?
It's not acceptable to see that BRD and MCH needs DRG to get their normal dps, like to need the NIN just for manage the aggro + TA. I will not count the MCH, since... I don't see a lot of players playing it, and when I see some it's not glorious.

SAM/BLM should be doing dbl the damage they do now if they have no utility. Selfish DPS implies they do shit ton of damage without buffs and in exchange do not synergize with other classes. Seeming like they just love the melee pierce meta + Trick too much.
