Guardian of the Grove .dat swap anyone?

I know this is probably against the ToS and this thread will likely get deleted, but I figured I'd ask anyways.

In this thread there was a discussion about the Christmas tree in Ul'dah frying video cards because of how many layers are used for the leaves or something. The same thing happens for Guardians of the Grove around Turning Leaf.

This morning I decided to farm some keystones because I'm running low and my LS doesn't really do the NMs much anymore. Unfortunately, I'm having the same issue that many others are having, and I really don't feel like frying my card because of it. I'll likely be farming keystones for a while since I've been very unlucky with drops, but that's another story. My GPU usage hits 99%, temps exceed 70c and fps drops to less than 10 whenever I'm around the trees.

As we all know, there is no safe place to farm keystones without having trees around you. I could do raptors, but they're a bit too high to solo effectively. So I'm stuck with having to risk burning out my card just to farm the keystones.

I don't see this issue being fixed any time soon, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me how to .dat swap the tree models for something else like a moogle or something. I'm not very well educated in things like this, so I doubt I could figure it out myself.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure others would be grateful as well. I know I'm not the only one having this problem.

yikes, I would seriously look into a decent upgrade on your card, or reducing settings just so you can get your keystones. Then after, bump your settings back up.

I have a somewhat outdated video card and I can still be in the tree area no problem.

are you still running at 60 fps? if so turn it down to 30, you will notice no change in the video and the temp of your card will be drastically reduced

There are wolves you can farm North of the monkey nm on the lower level, right next to the ramp. No trees in that area at all and they're only level 50.

I'm guessing you mean wolves. These are OK, for a bit, but the trees still come this far. I'd prefer to just shoot spindiggles if possible, though.

My card is fine. I use a 460 GTX hawk, which supposedly has the best stock cooling of all the 460 cards and is the recommended card on the box. My average temp is about 55c, but I just get nervous when I start reaching temps of over 70c. I know the card can handle more, I just don't feel safe stressing it like that.

Others are having this issue with better cards as well. Some have already reported complete failure of their cards because of this issue.

I may try to find the .dats myself, I could probably figure it out. I'm guessing you'd just need a model viewer for it? /shrug lol

Yea, I play @ capped 30fps. The game runs perfectly fine everywhere else.

had same problem. i have 2 GTX 460's and still my FPS drops near the trees BUT when i turnd off the shadows in-game config my FPS raised up again, try it

and btw... my SLI 460 reaches almost 75c most of the time i play lol so don't worry about it!
