The population statistics weird me out. Am I reading this right?

Why do they lock JP realms with like 11k pop, yet Tonberry with 14k is open...? And who's that sneaky GM that transferred to Balmung?

Simple really, if Tonberry is the server that the english speaking players go to then the time in which they play compared to their Japanese counterparts would be different.

While Tonberry may be a server of 14k active players, the Japanese players may make 10k of them being acting from 2am-12pm while the English Players are active from 1pm-7pm.

Except most that play on tonberry but speak english are from southeast asia or australia which is within 2-3 hours of japan's timezone.

I find it fascinating that NA has more active characters than JP. I wonder if that translates to active players too.

And yet JP still cleans the floor with NA when it comes to raid clears...

Me and my extended friends circle are pretty burnt out on Stormblood, and yet the number of "active" players has gone up by around 16k since December? Maybe I really am out of touch with this game...

Quality vs quantity, basically. The (Earth) population difference between NA and Japan is enormous which would account for it by itself, but I also feel like NA/EU is infinitely more open to the concept of paying a subscription to use the game as a chatroom/social platform. It felt that way with FFXI, too.

From Left to Right:

—Characters that are Level 70 (based only off of battle classes at 70, not DoH/DoL)
—Characters that have completed Patch 4.1 (based off of Raubahn minion)
—Alexander Savage (Gordias) clears (based off of mount)
—Alexander Savage (Midas) clears (based off of minion)
—Alexander Savage (Creator) clears (based off of mount)
—Deltascape Savage clears (based off of mount)
—Percentage of active players
—Unending Coil of Bahamut clears (based on either title or weapon equipped)
