A Fisher's Plea: As of now it's 443 hours until I can catch Bobgoblin. Why?

Fishing is the butt of many jokes. There are REASONS for this.

Some fish have specific conditions before you can even ATTEMPT to catch them, and then are only up for one chunk of time.

What's more, most of these- once you finally get their window- are mooches. You're lucky if MAYBE you spam the entire window and get one.

Which brings us to Bobgoblin. Seeing Garland, it's going to be four HUNDRED hours before its next window opens. 18 days. For 12 minutes it's available.... and it's a mooch.

My plea: most of the 'problem' fish are NOT from SB. Please nerf the catching requirements for older fish. Make it so that yellow scrip bait always has a 1% chance to catch them regardless of window, or force their windows to always happen at LEAST once a day RL, or remove their mooches. There are plenty of ways to make this less ridiculous. I should not have to wait almost 3 weeks for a 12 minute window to POSSIBLY catch a fish.

I mean come on.... sometimes you just need to look at the total ridiculousness of the situation and just say NO. The devs can do better than a fish that has a tiny window once every 3 weeks. You can like fishing just fine without mindlessly liking crap like this.

Forever to get the window, the fisher alt caught two when it was open.

There is still one 3.x big fish she has yet to catch, a 2 hour window, rare weather, mooch fish.

This is not 1999. They can make fishing fun and engaging and still challenging without this pointless tedium. They're just choosing the lazy way and refusing to put any sort of care or thought into fishing. It's there because they needed a third.

it actually used to be a more complex minigame in 1.0, but they got rid of it

and since ff14 is a "theme park" i dont mind having some relaxing content that I can do without putting much effort into it

But you do have to put effort into it. You have to keep track of game time of day, weather conditions, and bait and even then some big fish are just a slim chance they will actually bite in that tiny window. Your abilities mean almost nothing as well and there is no good way to use them to guarantee RNG won't screw you over. Contrast that to mining and botany, where good skill usage results in good rewards. I enjoy fishing. I just want to see it stand with the other two gathering classes and be just as viable, not the throwaway class.

I caught all fish in this game (aside of the 4.2 ones) and you have lots of skills to improve your chance of success and to minimize rng. Keeping track of everything makes it fun imo. You plan ahead, go to the designated location, cast your line, listen to music or watch tv and just enjoy the scenerie around you. Fish trackers and weather websites minimize your effort to almost zero aswell and it always somehow feels good to reel in something "rare". Had no luck? Try again later and get other fish in the meantime. It's relaxing.
