I know you cannot answer. Same as I know you are not here anymore, nowhere but in my memories and fading warmth. Not fading; I could never forget your smile, and just to make sure it cannot be forgotten, I've tried to share it. But I've been made aware that from a wielder of darkest magics, smiles may not be as reassuring. At least I am not believed to be so lascivious as you were.

I digress. Perhaps in hopes that this will lure you back to be a specter at my side, I write this letter. And if it does not, then simply writing it is... well. We both did miss plenty of chances to say 'I love you'.

I’ve been impressed with your strength and independence since we defeated Bahamut. Your handling of the Confederacy showed me a woman, confident and charming, with a wit as sharp as the crystal point reflected in your eyes. Below the Red Sea, we shared a love of the mystic so many forget. However, those didn’t tell me what I felt. It was an everyday moment only you could give me.

The morning before we left Isari for Yanxia, we were practicing our red magic to the tempo of the waves. I was glad of the break from people thanking me for saving them. You set a tree ablaze and I blew it out. We took that as a cue to stop. You sat on the sand and said, “I will relieve you of the next primal for some ginger cookies,” and asked after I sat with you, “Do you have a favorite cookie, Oreo?”

I refused to explain my laughter at the question because I like teasing you. I stopped when a messenger called for us. I felt the man had stolen our moment from me.

After you were hurt, I had to tell myself to let Alphinaud have your bedside. I hid my glances toward your bed during meetings. I let Lyse believe I feared only for your health as we marched away. Now you lie in Rahlger’s Reach, and I sit on the battlements of Porta Praetoria. The keep across the Lochs doesn’t concern me as much as that distance does.

Once the fighting and the pomp of victory are over, I will return to you. Before the world pulls us apart again, could I invite you for tea and a cookie?

And you came to my aid in Azys La when I needed you, strong as a towering tree, timely as a refreshing breeze on a stagnant day. My heart flutters in my chest like the wings of a newborn hatchling when I see you perform the dance we created together. I can no longer hold back my truest feelings - won’t you be mine? We can while away the seasons cloudfishing and watching Paissa fighting by day, playing Triple Triad and dancing our dance by night. I may be a mere netherling, but I will catch for you the fattest of wamouracampas and comeliest of Korrigans, shield you from the fiercest of thunderstorms and the strongest of the Vundu. I know you have heard of my heroic deeds in lands far away from the Sea of Clouds, and my fame in all Eorzea as the Warrior of Light, but at the end of the day, there is nothing more I want than to be forever by your side, like two bright stars shining together in the night sky.

Mm, have I watched you for nearly four years. And while I know the coordinates where you stand, how I wish to know the ones to your heart. While my journeys have taken you far from my sight, there are not enough yalms in Eorzea to distance you from my lalafell heart. A heart tiny in stature but big in true passion. Ah, I remember that day when I first saw you. Your pickle green tunic and mulch brown pants hooked me easier than five lominsan anchovies on a novice fisher’s eager rod. And your navy blue hair frames your perfect face as it complements the depths of your dark blue eyes.

I could only be excited. It was as if all my name-days had came at once.

But my words are not yet done. I remember your concerned countenance as you moved your hand. Your finger pointing as you counted. As I hid but observed you, it took me not so long to overhear why. You were in need of salt and I daresay still are to this day. I can only admire your persistence as you count again and again only to notice that you will be needing more salt.

If only you knew of me and how I regretfully have much to give. My tears run faster than my brethren from a sustenance starved Goobbue. The salt my sweet lacrimosa supplies would be more than enough supplement for your cooking.

It has been some time since we last spoke at Bardam’s Mettle. I pray that you are well. Your arrival was quite unexpected. I have not the words to describe how delighted I was to see you.

I owe you an apology. I was unable to stop myself. My soul screamed with elation as I leapt into your arms. I also must apologize for the dreadful sounds that erupted from my lips. You spoke not a word and though your expression suggested my screeching was grating to your ears, you smiled warmly. I felt as though my heart would burst from my chest. I thank you for humoring me, allowing me that brief moment of closeness instead of dropping me. Full glad I am that you did not berate me for such an unfamiliar and intimate gesture.

These emotions I feel, weigh heavy within my breast. I must confess, since that day on the steppe an aching void has swelled within. Watching you depart was, painful. I could feel my very essence cry out, reaching for you. I wanted to beg you to stay, if only for a fleeting moment longer. I find it quite difficult to put mine thoughts and desires of the heart into prose. Desires that are better left to be spoken in person, rather than confessed to the ink and parchment before me.

I know not when the next opportunity to speak to you will be afforded to me, Estinien. Whatever your thoughts of me may be… know that I keep you always in the front of my mind and in the depths of my heart. Wherever your travels take you, may you keep well, and I pray our paths cross again soon.

It has been ages since I last saw you. That fateful day you floated off to follow your dream was the same day you stole my heart.

I remember when we first met. After practicing magic upon some unsightly vermin and examining a cluster of crates you seemed to be attempting to hide and gauge my strength. My skills at magic never truly took hold but you did. The way you spoke and acted touched me. Not quite normal but perfect for you. Your passion for tactics and watching you grow to face your flaws and your fears with such determination was simply amazing. When you posed as the dancer to get aboard Doesmaga’s ship was a brilliant idea utilizing all the tools you had. It also showed me you were much more than just a smart and glowing lass. It took a lot of effort not to toss my book down and draw my axe and solve your problems my way. But, there would’ve been no growth from either of us had I taken that path.

Everytime I see a dancing miqo’te a little part of me hopes she will have your lovely pink hair. Everytime I hear a book snap shut I wonder if you will stride in to tell me how this meeting wasn’t by chance, but by design.

Whenever I draw my axe to defend a group of adventurers from the nightmares that this world has to offer a piece of me wishes it was you by my side. To see your brilliant mind in action once more, to catch a glimpse of your lovely hair caught in the sea breeze. I hope that one day i will get to tell you how i feel face to face.
