My dear Haurchefant,

The days are as hectic as ever, never dulling for even a moment. With each new sun rise, I find a new challenge, a new purpose to keep going. But those silent moments when I sit alone in the gardens of the Royal Menagerie, my thoughts wander to what could have been. No matter what my days and nights are like, it is the quiet moments that my heart seeks to fill a void as is its wont. I wonder if you’re watching over me now. I wake with a smile on my face, as you beseeched to me.
I never told me how you felt about me in our time together.

I suppose you never had the chance to fully express it either.

This void can never be filled. I only have the memories to stay with me, but I am content with that. You fill my thoughts so much that I wish I could bring you here with me. You were my shield, my hero. You’ve never once judged me, not for my Xaela heritage, nor for being an outsider. Even as I write this, I smile, as you’ve asked me. Words cannot express how much I miss you.
If I could replace this emptiness in my heart with you, I would do so in a heartbeat. I pray that you’re still watching over me, so that you can see how I feel. I truly miss you with all that I am, all that I’ve become – I wish for my shield to return to me. I wish to see your smile again.

This letter may not ever reach you, but I pray that somehow, you can understand my feelings.
