Thanks Skivvy for the revised questions. Though I did not feel Vstarstruck post particularly aggressive and the questions are legitimate. I finally finished ARR yesterday and can give more inputs. I will however try to answer to your post instead, as the questions are already put in structure.
Original: So are you glad this change makes it very limiting who is able do it? Are you going to be running it later doing it for the 100th time watching the same cs you seen before?
Revised: Are you happy with the change? Are you worried that the number of "veteran" participants may decline over time? Do you see yourself participating in the MSQ roulette after your initial clear?
As I mentioned in my post, It all depends on the queue time over time. If it is getting too long, the change is of course not welcomed as new players would be blocked to even play further. (btw, I find it quite stupid design to have MSQ block your progression but this is another topic and more related to the original design of the game). When I did it, there were only 2 vets with the rest all sprouts and the queue time were instant as I am a tank I guess. I also play on Japanese DC so it might be more populated than NA and the influx of people for the new patch.
I would personally not run the MSQ roulette every day now that it is unlocked as I have 100+ MSQ quest to catch up to get back to my friend already in Ishgard. And I agree, the CSs are indeed time-consuming and I can understand it can discourage many. But I do want some poetics for my gear so I will probably run the roulette once in a while later for leveling especially when I have to cook and eat dinner or house cleaning, calls etc ( job and live alone) which is a really great thing for me as I can get some xp while doing other things ! But this is very specific to my situation (or is it ? Seems FF14 community is way more mature that other MMOs which is a big like from me
).
Original: Don't you think it is a bit selfish to exclude so many when you can simply get friends and do the run at your own pace? (This friend you speak of is likely able to do these just you and them, but due to the change, you can't even watch the CS at your own pace)
Revised: Just don't even ask this. MSQ roulette was designed to get sprouts through content. It is not the OP's fault that SE changed the roulette in this manner.
Here, I don't really understand well your worry. How is it selfish ? This 2 duties were made for the story not for high level people grinding it. I really don't know why SE should please vets player for doing it under 15 mins... SE should try to appeal to vets only when queue is getting ridiculous. But as other people mentioned, we don't have the stats so it is useless to argue about that. And for now, I heard the reward was quite ok still.
Original: Are you aware this change prevents people going at their own pace? meaning I can't go slower then the auto play and read something over at that moment should I be distracted by something in RL?
Revised: How do you feel about the pacing of the CS's and the breaks in fighting?
I did not find any problems with the pace of dialog and CSs. I found it even too slow to be honest. For the distraction, it is the same as when I watch a movie in a cinema. I usually try to block some hours for gaming and only leave for urgent stuff. I don't start a duty if I know I will be disturbed.
Original: You really think it is a good change removing a dialog pop up across doing it in roulette, premade undersized, watching it in the inn?
Revised: Do you feel the change to mandatory CSs was a change for the positive, or do you feel that players had enough options already (e.g. Party finder, watching CSs in the inn, etc.)
I personally hate going through another medium to watch back the story. It can become messy and it doesn't feel right as you kinda already did it and lose the first time experience. I was happy with the cutscene directly from while playing the game but what I also hated was that the bosses were down in a matter of seconds without even having time to go through some sort of final forms like in every FF game final bosses. Probably because the 2 vets had 70 lvl gear and the sync gear function is not strong enough ... I mean the vets tank has like 10 K HP and I barely got 5 K with the gear from the job quest which is lvl 50.
Overall, I agree that there are ways to improve the current change of CSs but I find it is in the right direction. At least, it did not happen like my friend when he was doing it. I mean, he sat through the cut scene and missed all the boss fight and the duty was nearly finished when he finally saw all... ( he also just started the game but a little earlier than me so he is a bit further in the story)
I understand that other people have other ways of playing and some newbies want to skip the CSs as well. A vote system would be perfect or something like if everyone clicked yes on skip cutscene, then it skips ( without revealing who did or didnt skip of course).
my two cents.
