You can die of fall damage if you are aggroed by an enemy.
I remember the one time i fought that A rank mammoth near falcons next.He charged me off a cliff and i died to fall damage XD

I found out that the maximum fall damage is your max HP -1. You can die if aggroed, but can die if you fall off a cliff without full HP (for example, if you were aggroed BEFORE falling).
