As such, we're also being punished when real life happens and we can't pay our sub for whatever reason.
Losing the house, fine, whatever. We seem to be forever stuck with that punishment because of their failure.
But to lose our hard earned housing items and gil because of real life, that even more of a slap in the face.
There should be no limit on how long a person items and gil are held for.

Can safely say if I was in the OP position, I'd not even bother to re-sub knowing that not only did I lose the house but everything I put into it and the gil.

    Let put it this way:
Right now, we're dumping hard earned real money into a game that take content away from us if we stop (have to stop) playing.
As Besame said, there lots of outstanding games out right now that doesn't do this to it player base. Games that don't punish their player base because real life happens.

Sunfire this is a side effect of any persistent housing system. Only so many homes/wards means at some point the deadwood will have to be cleared. You have your health and are recovering financially by the sounds of it and that's way more important than a fake pixelated house. As far as the lost gil and decor well it sucks but nothing to do now move on or live and learn. Embrace your life and hopefully good marriage way more important than any game.

    This is incredibly condescending.

Condescending or not that's life it applies in game to some degree, and 100% outside of it. Deal with it or not your choice but, you've still got your health and your not homeless obviously whats more important pixels on a server that dosen't pay the bills or a real roof over your head with a loving wife? Think about that.

Obviously his life is more important but he pays to play this game, per month, like everyone else. I don't think he's asking for too much here, he just wants his stuff back from what I understand, not the plot. I can't believe the amount of people who are frothing at the mouth over the BIG BAD HOUSING ISSUES TOO BAD SO SAD YOU WENT AWAY FROM THE GAME TOO LONG when someone was legit suffering IRL. How disconnected do you have to be to not care that someone lost the time, effort and care they put into this game?

Obviously you care about this game since you're playing it. Why is it difficult to understand that someone else cares too? Think about that.

I absolutely agree that there is no excuse for furniture and gil not to be stored indefinitely. It is the one thing about the demolition that I've never been able to fathom. I'm glad to see more people starting to come round to the idea that it's unacceptable.

To the OP, I'm really sorry for your situation. I just hope that maybe some good will come out of this; ideally, you get your items back and we get a change on this policy, so nobody else has to go through this. For a lot of us, the things in our house are far more valuable than the house itself.

It's because housing was always supposed to be a gil sink. We have so many things adding gil into the game, but very few that actually remove gil. Housing was supposed to be one of those, and one that removed massive amounts at a time as originally you couldn't get it back.

Then as we all know with demolition they give you back 80% as well as the items, but to still be an effective gil sink they'd rather not give it back, hence the limited time to collect it in. They probably include furniture in that because it's easier for them to do it all at once and possibly also because any NPC bought furniture (small amounts as they are) would also be a small gil sink too.

Or in my cynic's view they want people to have to go back to the Mog Station to repurchase all of those housing items they paid cash for.

Apart the IRL issues that of course take precedence over housing on a game, you will get emails about the imminent demolish of your housing. It is hard miss them: you get at least one that let you know you are near the time limit, and this one with enough time to act, I say, one week about, and then another email right before it happens, to let still you act.

These emails cannot be missed. Maybe ignored. And I am not talking by "friends/third party/my cousin" experience. I had one house demolished because in a server I didn't play anymore so I let it be demolished. And I got warned enough.
